You know after reading the Avengers thread I'm starting to think only 100 people have actually seen it.... a billion times a piece. :lol

I saw it exactly 1 more time than TDKR (4 to 3).

I'm a DC guy, and I like TDKR enough... but I find The Avengers more enjoyable (which is actually what this poll asked) and I'm ready to see Batman/DC films that are more like it in tone, pacing, etc.

To be fair, none of Marvel's other movies (except for maybe the first Iron Man, or perhaps Cap) even comes close to The Avengers. And I'm not sure the future Marvel films will match up, either. It got the cinematic superhero formula just right. Now it's DC/Warner's turn...

I am A Spider-Man fan first and foremost. But i enjoyed the Avengers a bit more mainly cause it surprised me. I knew what was coming with ASM (and i liked what i saw) And TDKR was more of the same Nolan bats stuff which is ok to me.

So for me i had the best time at Avengers. Then ASM, then TDKR. But i liked them all, which is a good thing 3 for 3 this summer.

Can't say I agree at all. TDKR solid movie. Nothing special whatsoever but it was enjoyable. The Avengers is one I know I will be watching over and over for years to come.

I still found the avengers average. Aside from putting all those characters in a film and working, there was nothing else but a CGI explosion fest with a crap stereotypical AAAALIENS! story. It was just, lame.

I mean the films before them, Thor, Cap America, Iron man 2 were naff IMO. Downey Jr is the only reason, along with Hulk that Avengers was any good. Im dreading the PG-13 crapping on Iron Man 3. I hope it finally focuses properly on Starks Alcoholism

Chris evans is a horrible Cap. He doesnt look anything like how I imagine Cap to be.

But aside from the 'wow all the characters together and it wasnt terrible!', as a film, it was just transformers; eye cande and gratification without using a brain cell.

Yeah, that isn't correct....like at all.

The Avengers isn't complicated, but it's never stupid. Not once. It's a real movie. Made for entertainment. And done right.

To call it Transformers is just....beyond hyperbolic.

that coming from a michael bay groupie, that means a LOT. :clap :lol

Let's not forget Avenger's 92% critics rating on rottentomatoes vs. The Dark Knight Rises' 86%.

This sort of stuff is petty to me (ratings and box office) because I really don't give a damn but it's the sort of thing uberfans utilize to support their opinion for why "MY SUPERHERO MOVIE IS BETTER THAN YOURS".

TDKR #14 of all time so far (220k votes)
Avengers #53 (283k votes)

TDKR 78/100 on Metacritic
Avengers 69/100 on Metacritic

Couldnt care less about imdb poll at all. For me the avengers blew tdkr out of the water. It's not even close for me now I understand others feel differently and to that I say, "good for you."

Khev's analogy is great, but I think you can make a better one by not referencing other movies.

Avengers was like going to an amusement park. Dark Knight Rises was like going to a museum.

Thanks, the reason I mentioned other movies was just to show how from my point of view Avengers and TDKR aren't in direct competition with one another (other than with surface things like box office or whatnot.)

To me this poll is like saying "What is your favorite alien invasion movie; Stephen Spielberg's War of the Worlds or The Avengers?" Anyone can pick a favorite of course but even though they both feature heroes who dress up in costumes they're still almost different genres all together.

One thing is almost certain:

There will NEVER be a better year for superhero movies than 2012.

Anyone who truly thinks TDKR is a "masterpiece" probably just needs to watch a lot more movies. And different types.
