NO! they played a horrible game, Took Colombia out by playing dirty and having the ref on their side, they deserved to Lose!
When you lose with a margin of 6 goals ofcourse you deserve to lose. As for the Colombia match too... Colombia deserved to lose too. Not like they were pretty little angels.

This world cup has had justice done in every game till now. Whosoever has gone for the win has won. Whosever tried to play for a stalemate have lost. Its that simple. The colombians played a rough game too and wanted to play for a stalemate. They got shot out.

Really dont think we should make a joke out of that loss. Specially with the emotions of the fans. Yes it was a horrible performance but spare a thought for all those fans who sat through 90 minutes in the stadium, cried and applauded the German goals. Those are true football fans. If this was happening in our local derby there would be rioting by half time and Im sure the match would be called off.

My father was at the stadium watching this, he said he has finally seen what fans of the game are like, and should be. There was no ill will shown to the opponent fans, everything was taken with the spirit of the game.

Brazil is too much of a football giant to have this game be a disaster for them. Rather this should be an eye opener for them to revamp the way they have been playing for a decade now. Its time for Brazil to rediscover why they were the ultimate conjurors of the beautiful game.

Well said, very well said indeed. :exactly:

Except for one part.

Its ok to joke, no harm no foul, humor calms the souls and converts sadness to laughter.

Other than that, well said.

That being said, I'm starting to think Naymer missing the next game on an injury that required no surgery and had him walking around that same day plus their Captain getting himself thrown out on a foul no player would ever do plus Julio Cesar acting very weird during those lack of saves has got me thinking something is just not right. :lol

There is some dirty **** secret **** going on here. :lol

i read that brazil made 42 fouls and only got called on 3 on the colombia game?

that's pretty bad.

I'll joke about Brazil's lost game until the end of times :lol

I don't feel bad about it, they were not doing a great job and they were lucky to make it this far.
I'm not saying I'm glad Neymar got hurt... Of course not.

But that game and the people crying were hilarious.

Well my pick was for the Argies to win the cup prior to the start of the tournament so I'm sticking with them.

Mind you I never thought that they would bore us all along the way to the final. :slap

I would blame the coach for that. I am actually keen to watch the Germany - Algeria game again. Perhaps the Argentinians can learn a thing or two from there.

SAO PAULO – Furious Netherlands head coach Louis Van Gaal blasted FIFA for its refusal to scrap the World Cup's third-place consolation game and insisted the controversial playoff should be consigned to history.

Van Gaal's Dutch side will be forced to play host nation Brazil in Brasilia on Saturday after losing its semifinal to Argentina in a heart-stopping penalty shootout at Arena de Sao Paulo on Wednesday night.

The coach, who takes over English Premier League team Manchester United at the end of the tournament, claimed he has urged soccer's hierarchy to abandon the game for more than a decade, to no avail.

"I think that this match should never be played," said Van Gaal less than an hour after his team's 0-0 tie and subsequent 4-2 loss on penalties. "I have been saying this for the past 10 years.

"We will just have to play the game but it is unfair. We will have one day less to recover and that's not fair play. But the worst thing is, I believe, there is a chance that you lose twice in a row in a tournament in which you've played so marvelously well. You go home as a 'loser' because possibly you've lost the last two matches."

The third-place game is much derided and is rarely memorable. Teams often select weakened teams in order to give playing time to squad members who have gotten little playing time in the tournament.

This time around, the game will have some significance for Brazil, which is desperately seeking to regain some pride following its crushing 7-1 semifinal defeat to Germany. But playing for third place obviously means very little to Van Gaal.

FIFA has insisted on keeping the match as part of the World Cup schedule and it has been a part of the format since the inception of the competition. Even then, however, it was not very popular.

The United States won third place in the inaugural tournament in 1930 when its scheduled opponent, Yugoslavia, refused to play the game.

Van Gaal hinted he may make widespread changes to his lineup on Saturday and could not hide his displeasure.

"This game has nothing to do with sports in my opinion," he added. "But I have said this 10 years or 15 years ago and nothing changed. No tournament, no football tournament, especially in the last stage, should you have players playing for third or fourth.

"There is only one prize and one award that counts for anything and that is becoming champion."

With the 2014 World Cup tournament almost over, now is a good time to have a look around and see how much money teams have won for their performances during the tournament.

That’s right, Sepp Blatter has got his checkbook out. Happy days.

As set out by FIFA back in December 2013 the winners, either Germany or Argentina, will receive $35 million in prize money from soccer’s world governing body. The total amount of prize money rose by a whopping 37 percent to $576 million for the 2014 tournament from the $420 million handed out during South Africa 2010.

Even the runner up will bag $25 million, while Brazil and the Netherlands will battle it out in the third place match for a cool $22 million… the loser, and subsequent fourth place team, still get $20 million.

So, what about the USA? What did Jurgen Klinsmann’s men earn after their hard-fought journey to the round of 16?

$9 million.

Every team who got knocked out of the round of 16 made $9 million. As for those teams who made the quarterfinal stage, they each received $14 million. So, in theory, the U.S. were a Chris Wondolowski chance away from bagging an extra $5 million in prize money. Too soon?

$9 million isn’t bad though, right? Coupled with the $1.5 million FIFA gave all 32 nations for ‘preparation costs’ I’d say that the U.S. Soccer Federation certainly did okay out of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Plus, look at all the sponsorship deals the U.S. signed and everything else that comes with enhanced exposure after the record TV numbers.

However, here is where it gets interesting. The 16 nations who were knocked out at the group stages, how much do you think they got? The answer is $8 million.

So even if the U.S. felt like they made a monumental leap forward, prestige wise, in qualifying from the ‘group of death’ and making the knockout rounds, they only received $1 million more than Cameroon, Honduras or Australia who all finished bottom of their groups without a single point in the tournament.

Does that seem a little unfair? Perhaps. Regardless, if FIFA is dishing out prize money, it don’t see any teams complaining.

Anyway, here is the list in full as to how much money each team made from the 2014 World Cup. Do you think this is the fairest way of splitting up the humongous pot of money? Any other suggestions?

if Louis Van Gaal is so angry about the game then just refuse to play it and let Brazil have some dignity back. They might win third place by a technicality but I am sure they will welcome that.

there is also the chance that they might lose again, so Yeah, if this game is such a problem either refuse to play or put all the players that didn't get to play and let brazil win or something.

Besides if they are playing for more money I don't see why he is so mad about it. 20 million is pretty good for just letting brazil win :dunno

I can understand you dont follow 'soccer', but I dont see how you can suggest things like that... are things like that commonplace in US Sports?

This is THE WORLD CUP. Louis Van Gaal doesnt decide to play or not. FIFA decides, rather the Dutch FA decides. If they dont play, they will probably be banned by FIFA or suspended for a long time.

And let Brazil win? this is not a charity. In Football its not about participating, its about competing. I dont think the dutch have no self dignity to just want to be defeated.

And Van Gaal's statement makes sense from the psychology of players. A third place game is a dead rubber, and teams who want the highest prize really dont care enough about it but being professionals they commit themselves. But in the back of their minds their previous loss keeps haunting them.

i read that brazil made 42 fouls and only got called on 3 on the colombia game?

that's pretty bad.
Id suggest you watch the games to build your own opinion. :)

Man, if Argentina defeats Germany, Brasil will sink into an even further crying spree.
Not really, I dont think they will prefer the team who beat them by 7 goals to win either. It all depends, Neymar publicly came out saying he'd prefer Argentina win, because of his Barca team mates. So its not all that between them. Brazilians are more concerned about their loss and humiliation. Rivalries arent really the top things on their mind.
