In the group stage?

:lol

England really ran out of puff in the last quarter of an hour. Well done Italy, you buncha stinkin' diving cheats! I'll be seeing my step-father today, who's Italian - he'll be very happy :)

Onya Roberto, Italy delivers once the occasion demands it :hi5:

A moment of thanks... thank f **king heavens no vuvuzelas, South Africa's only memorable contribution to world cup history.

This cup has the makings of a cracker.

Ivory Coast vs Japan up next, c'mon Blue Samurai, Banzai!

The Hispanic channel (Univision) has Hristo Stoichkov as a commentator in between games...such a joy listening to this man, let me tell you.

I wouldn't count England out just yet guys.

How can anyone like spot kicks determining the outcome of a long fought out contest?
Penalty shootouts are depressing, especially for the English.

I have a morbid curiosity about England Penalty shootouts. It fascinates that, as a tournament goes on, the team seem like they specifically play for them as though assuming each time that ''it'll be different this time'' and inevitably.....

Penalties are the very worst part of football. Alright?

Penalties are the worst.

Sudden death FTW. Aka "gol de oro"

Pens are fun to watch if you have no interest in who wins, but England + Penalties = :thud:

I love the suspense of it all :nana:

But I'm not that invested in the whole thing so :dunno

I thought it was a good game tonight. Shame England couldn't get that 2nd goal because I think a draw would of been a fair result but it wasn't to be. The Italians defended very well as usual but I felt England really gave it a go.

I couldn't understand why Hodgson put on Lallana instead of Lambert? Taking Sturridge off we had no target man but plenty of central midfielders so what's the point of adding more with no one to aim at?

Rooney was poor again IMO but he was played out of position to be fair. Still there was no excuse for him not taking that golden chance in the 2nd half to equalise, so once again he's failed to produce on the big stage. Hopefully Barkley will start the next game but I doubt Hodge has the balls to drop Rooney

Sterling man of the match. He ran that defence ragged tonight & to think he's only 19

Unlucky England. Played well against a very tough side. As good as Sterling is in the no 10, id play him wide and shift Rooney inside .
All comes down to thurs now. And even if we get thru that, costa rica look dangerous.
I always thought our fate may lie with what suarez does and I still think thats the case.

Got to say I love watching Pirlo play. The guy is just a genius in ball retention and passing. Crazy free kick .
