Bet, thecorsair loves the British media. Always banging on about 1966 or British broadcasting showing 1966 before the official world cup kicks off.

Rule Britannia and all that. England thinks they're a world power on the centre stage.

I think it's time the country stopped basking in former glories and moved on :lol

Football has evolved since 1966 yet the people running the English game are stuck in some kind of time loop and still think that technically poor but physically adept players will get the job done :cuckoo:

If England are ever to stand a realistic chance of producing enough top class players in the same generation to form a squad that's capable of winning a tournament the present coaching philosophy from grass roots level upwards has to be scrapped and rebuilt from scratch in favor of a system that's along the lines of nations that know how to play football ie Spain, Brazil, Germany or the Netherlands.

Seems to me England have rarely been short of enough individual talent to furnish a strong on-paper squad - their problem has been turning those individuals into a team who collectively give a toss about representing their country.

CR7. No doubt.

Something tells me this will be his WC. As much as I dislike the guy.

He was my first thought too but I wasn't sure about their Mid providing him quality ball (through my own lack of knowledge)

This is a plea to other 31 countries takin part in the World Cup....please can you adopt me so I can cheer you on with hope of possibly winning this years ultimate grail of the footballing world. I have officially retired from supporting Italy...I refuse to support them any longer after last nights amazing 1-1 performance against Luxembourg!!! WTF!!! Italy World Ranking: 9 Luxembourg World Ranking: 118

I mean, we were full strength here and playing at home so what's the excuse??? Didn't want to play good incase we get injured? Didn't feel like playing because you were thinking about your flight in the morning to Brazil and how you can wait to see the nice sexy girls on the beach? C'mon!!:gah: This is a ****ing joke!!! Its like the equivalent of Brazil playing against Sideshow Collectibles for crying out loud!!! This has got to be the worse I've ever seen Italy play in a long long time and I'll tell you all now that they will totally get eliminated in the group stages!!

Of course, I still hope they can get a result against England on June 14th :yess: :yess: :lol

who will be the Golden Boot winner?

Messi

Golden boot for Messi? Nah, Messi doesn't have the supporting cast of Barcelona with him. Teams will do the same thing that they did the last World Cup and gang up on Messi. Granted Argentina is a great team, but they don't have the raw talent that the world's best club teams have at their disposal. Strikers need a strong supporting cast and neither Argentina nor Portugal have that for the world's two best players. So I think the samething will happen to Ronaldo. As far ast the Golden boot, that will go to Fred or Neymar. Heck, Klose might do it again.

Spain winning the World Cup? Won't happen. One of the strongest European teams, but the South American teams look really strong this time. FIFA ranking always seem to favor European teams over South American teams.

Winner: Brazil (look how they embarrassed Spain)
Golden Boot: Fred
Dark Horse Canidate: Uruguay (Well not really, but they are my second pick to win it all)

With Brazil being the strongest team in their own country, they have to be the favorites of analysts and fans alike. Plus a european team has never won in South America.

Golden Boot winner for me.....You can't look past Ronaldo but I think that Messi could also make a play for that award.

Ronaldo has abetter midfield of playmakers than Messi does. In the team Messi IS the playmaker AND the lead striker. All teams have to do stop argentina is what they did the last time. Gang up on him. Once you stop his distribution Argentina lack any creativity.

Portugal is not that way. Putting Ronaldo in the wings along with Coentrao is the trump card, Joao Moutinho is a fantastic playmaker, if he is marked well (which wont happen as teams concentrate more on Christiano) then Portugal has a problem. Portugal's weakness is simply their mental ability. You need a team like old fashioned Greece or vintage Italy and they will be destroyed. They have to be frustrated as they only play on the counter. And the longer the match drags on and if Christiano doesnt get space, they start panicking and playing rough.

I totally agree with this assessment of Argentina, but as far as Portugal, Coentrão hasn't really been the impact for the national team as he has for his club teams (currently Real Madrid). But I totally agree they rely on the counter. Hence why I think Uruguay and Brazil are the favorites. The only team from Europe that I think has a chance is Germany, but they looked weak against Cameroon.

Argentina are certs to get out of their Group and Portugal should but it could get tough for them.

Had they to meet my money would be on Argentina. They (Argentina) peaked far to early at the 2012 World Cup and eventually lost badly to the Germans.

Pumped for this. Most exciting tournament in the world. This'll be a great 30 days. Sucks that it happens every 4 years; means I age, a lot, each time this happens.:lol

Go Germany!!!!:rock

There's the Copa America to fill the gap as well as the tough as nails classifiers (conca caf doesn't count).

Yeah, and you sure as hell deserved it. Suarez has got to be from out of this world. I do actually love the Uruguayan team.

We ended up third (Perú). But we are literally the worst in South America now. Well, at least we beat the Bolivians. Lol.
