re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Thanks, guys, for the words of encouragement. You are all right - I have nowhere to go but up. Basically, as a non-college-graduate I have spent a lot of time in sort of low-medium level office jobs. I have 7+ years experience in Medical Billing but when St Vincent's Hospital in NYC closed in 2010 so many of us were displaced that the market was oversaturated. I finally landed this **** gig in Feb of last year and was thrilled just to have full time work again (Medical Records Clerk....GO TO COLLEGE, KIDS!). As long as my fam was comfortable I was content to deal with the nonsense at this place and have my fun drawing on the side. I should have been more proactive about getting something better, but as I said I had assurance from the facility manager that I was safe. Until I wasn't.

But, it can't be stressed enough, this is now a matter of cutting back spending, not looking for a new place or moving in with parents, etc. We are still more fortunate than many and most fortunate in that my wife and I are tight as glue and she totally understands what went on. I'll be 'aight. Just a lot to take in today.

Thank you to my buddies for being here!

Take it easy today and we'll be here if you need us. I can imagine finding that ad and hearing that from the boss must've felt like a punch in the gut, but just say "eff em".

OMG.... I'm sitting here slack jawed, Thom. I'm really, really sorry. Have you made any contacts in your industry? This sounds like an unlawful termination to me. Damn, that pisses me off!!

Agreed... that sounds groundless. Not that it matters as you don't like the job, but maybe worth suing :rock

Thanks, and thanks to everyone who has given me sympathy reps! :lol It really makes me feel better. This place is like Rivendell. Just hang out for a while after **** hits the fan, you'll feel better. :lol

I don't want to drag down the 'tina, though. I'll be here participating (probably more than usual) just like normal. :duff

Totally sucks what happened, but hopefully it leads to something better and less stressful for you.

I am definitely considering talking to an attorney since there were no grounds but it seems like, in NJ, you can basically terminate at will as long as you aren't discriminating against race/sex (which may have happened but how do you prove that?).

I just want to move on. It was an absolute nightmare after the first three months and I only stuck it out because I had spent so long looking before I got it.

So are you done now? Or still working until they find a replacement?

When I explained that I did not say what I was being accused of saying I was told that another person corroborated it. Which is not surprising - I did say "I don't care" but it was not about what my boss is claiming.

The Facility Manager said it was now "on hold" until my boss comes back (she had surgery recently - or supposedly did, someone who knows people at the hospital said she never had the procedure she is "out" for). But the writing is on the wall. They were letting me go until I saw the listing and approached him. No meeting is going to fix that. The bottom line is that I work for 9 doctors ans they like my boss. She's not going anywhere, and I am more easily replaceable. I have been told that the same thing happened to the last 2 guys in my position.

That sucks! Well, start the job hunt now! No reason to wait until D-Day. If you're lucky, you'll get a job right away, and then they'll be screwed if your boss is still out and they haven't hired someone new...

This may interest some folks. Here are details on the free 1-year of credit monitoring, offered by Target from their fiasco last month...

https://creditmonitoring.target.com

In addition to a complimentary copy of your credit report, you will receive daily credit monitoring, identity theft insurance where available, and have access to personalized assistance from a highly trained Fraud Resolution Agent. This offer applies to all Target guests who shopped in U.S. stores. To register, please go to creditmonitoring.Target.com before April 23, 2014.

Guests will have until April 23, 2014 to request a code and until April 30, 2014 to register their code with Experian.

What is offered as part of the credit monitoring/ProtectMyID?

The one year of free monitoring membership to ProtectMyID includes:

Credit Report: You will get a free copy of their Experian credit report. If you enroll online, your report will be available online. Online credit reports are available for 30 days.
Daily Credit Monitoring: You will receive alerts for one year that reflect changes to your Experian credit report during your membership term. This includes new inquiries, newly opened accounts, new derogatory information (such as delinquencies or medical collections) and more.
Identity Theft Resolution: If confirmed that you have been the victim of identity theft, you will be assigned a dedicated, U.S.-based Experian Fraud Resolution Agent who will walk you through the fraud resolution process—and remain available to answer questions—from start to finish.
Identity Theft Insurance: If you have been a victim of identity theft relating to this incident, you will immediately be covered by a $1 million insurance policy that can help you cover certain costs, including lost wages, private investigator fees, and unauthorized electronic fund transfers for one year.
ProtectMyID ExtendCARE: Access to personalized assistance from a highly-trained Fraud Resolution Agent will continue even after the initial one year ProtectMyID membership expires.

Credit scores will not be offered to guests who sign up for the free year of credit monitoring. You do not need a credit score to receive the benefits of credit monitoring.

May have to do that. I've been considering this week paying for the monthly service anyway.

After the house loss, I need to work on my credit... :(

Still stuck at five Jolly Ranchers. No way I'll ever hit ten. I guess I better get used to being average. :(
