Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy are very different, but I can honestly say that I had a lot more fun at the movies watching this than I did watching any of the prequel films.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

I can't compare any movie to SW because I have been brainwashing myself for decades.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

After The Thing, I'm gonna watch Princess Mononoke.
Nice double-feature! They're practically the same film! :monkey3

It's already dead. Disney was one of the pioneers and last to go. All television is digital now as well.
Disney could bring it back again, like they did with Princess and the Frog. I know it's unlikely, but never say never...

I finally saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It was a nice reboot and Caesar is a damn cool character.
I agree, but I still think the films were misnamed. The first one should have been DAWN OF, and the 2nd one should be RISE OF. It would make more sense...

HA! I just came here to say that I just broke my "no new Blu Ray" rule by ordering this Target exclusive:

Is that figure exclusive? Or are they just giving you a common figure as a freebie?

I just texted this to Ken about the GOTG movie, which I have not seen yet...

I attribute the collective subconscious feeling going around to the zeitgeist reaching a fever pitch with regard to possibly great new Star Wars films coming...
When I read that, I immediately thought: "WTF?!?!?! :cuckoo:

Off to bed. Summer vacation is officially over for 2014. :(
WTF?!?!?!?! Your school starts in early August?!?!?!?! I hope you ended in early May then. That totally blows... I have teacher friends, and they don't start til after Labor Day. But they do have meetings one week prior...

And the insurance company just denied my claim fit the water damage In my crawl space so I'm back to being ****ed and needing to find $6k in like 2 weeks.
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOES!!!!!!!!!!! Can you take out a short term loan? That royally blows... When I put in the offer on my house, I had some regrets and thought about backing out. So I made all sorts of demands after the inspection. They tried to counter offer, but I stuck to my guns and said I wanted everything or the deal is dead. They actually did everything. I was shocked, and actually disappointed!

Hmmm. I'm not sure if I can agree or not. I enjoyed the prequels. Not on the same level as the OT of course, but I still enjoyed them... I cared more about the characters, except for Anakin. I wanted to slap that ****er. In GotT, the only character I even mildly cared about was Starlord. I didn't care about the girl, or Rocket. Groot was OK I suppose, but the last scene of the movie was just over the top and unnecessary...

The POTA figure looks to be the same only carded instead of boxed like the regular release. Considering the figures are $18-20, $24 total after discount and tax for both is a steal.

And no to the loan because we're already jumping through hoops to get the mortgage in such a quick amount of time. We'll figure it out. Some stuff will be hitting the auction block though.

The only character I really rooted for in the prequels was Qui-Gon and he died in the first one. I hated Anakin, Padme, Jar Jar, war between things robots and clones that can be built or created in a lab took away from it, and I hated kung-fu flipping Yoda. Obi-Wan wasn't bad, but Alec Guinness was better. I guess what it comes down to is that I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy thoroughly, while I just enjoyed a certain handful of things from the prequels but didn't really like them as a whole. That's just my opinion on it, though. Not taking away from your point of view.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Here's another point I just thought of. All of the characters in GotG were greedy bastards after money for much of the film... Sure, Han was like that in ANH, but deep down he was a good guy. I didn't find much "good" in the GotG characters. They were all criminals, looking out for themselves.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Peter and Rocket were the only ones in it for the money. And Groot by association. They ended up being the biggest heroes, each sacrificing themselves. Han Solo hung back then swooped in for the money shot. :dunno

No, the green chick also had a deal to sell it (for 4 billion credits!!!). Dave Bautista is the only one that didn't care about money. But his hatred and need for revenge made him a bad person as well.
They may have changed their minds after they discovered the destruction the orb could cause, but initially they were all about the money. And you don't know Groot was only doing it by association. He may have been the mastermind behind it. "I am Groot" can mean "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!!"

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

I also must add that I wanted to see Karen Gillan looking sexy, not blue...

She said something about needing the money to go into hiding from Thanos. She wanted to get away from the guy that killed her parents and made her into a weapon. That's how I understood it, at least.
