I'm a Star Wars-aholic thanks to Flosi's Cantina

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

C8/C9 linen-backed posters for SW and ESB run about $1100 each. Throw in good framing and they come close to $1500 each. An unused, rolled ROTJ can run around $500. I don't have anything on order at the moment and I've been selling stuff like crazy, so I've definitely got these on my radar.
DAYYUM! I really need to find my OT posters! I have MANY, all rolled, somewhere in my basement... No original SW release though. But I have ESB, ROTJ, and SW re-release posters, including some foreign ones...

I have no idea what "linen-backed" means. The posters were printed on bed sheets?

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

I have a full set of the figures in C8/C9 condition, so now I've started looking for the cardbacks. This is the poor man's way to collect carded figures. :monkey2
I am VERY jealous. I really need to acquire a full set of vintage myself, but I know it is time consuming and costly. First, I need to find the figures I already own, so I don't double-dip and buy duplicates.

A Linen Backed poster is a poster that is archivally mounted to acid free paper and canvas where it can be restored if needed. Fold lines and other defects become less noticeable, sometimes even invisible. It can be rolled for shipping and is ready for framing. Linen backing can dramatically improve the overall appearance of a poster and it can substantially increase its value. It is the preferred archival method for conserving and/or restoring a poster. Almost any flaw can be fixed so you would never know it was there.

Interesting... sounds like this is an irreversible method? Is there any concern that later on this method may fall out of fashion and actually lead to a lower valued item?

I'm not sure that there's much difference between a poster like that and, say, vintage comics, which I've spent thousands on over time but I just can't get it out of my head that it's nothing more than an old piece of paper. I mean, prints can be bought for just a couple bucks.... Not to sound negative, Richard, as I do understand the lure of it.

Thanks for the explanation. Very cool... I take it the linen backing process is expensive... Once I find my vintage posters, I'll have to decide what to do with them. Hopefully they are still in good condition.

Yoda? Damn... Hard for me to even fathom. He's more a top 5 or 10 character to me, but certainly not No. 1.

I never voted once, but I am happy that my favorite character won!!! YAY YODA!!! :clap :clap :clap

Note: I don't truly think that Yoda would win those battles, but any character that is both a Muppet and a Star Wars character will ALWAYS win with me! That's why he's my main focus character.

There's quite a bit more information on that site. They do mention that investors probably do not do the linen backing since it does take a poster from its original state.

There probably wouldn't be much difference, but I would be damn proud to have originals of my favorite movies. Since there wouldn't be many, I figured I'd spend the extra money. Kind of like buying a first print comic.

It's about $350, so you wouldn't want to do it very often. :lol

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

I took it as a popularity contest. I guess I just figured Vader was a slam dunk? Still, Yoda is, IMO, one of the top three most iconic SW characters, along with Vader and R2, so it's not shocking (hope I didn't make it sound that way). I'm just a little amazed that he beat out Vader.

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log
I asked him his name and in a raspy voice he said, "Yoda"

Y O D A, Yoda

Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
