re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

You've got a solid basis there... I know when I was collecting years ago space was not as much of an issue and the figures were low cost enough not to give a 2nd thought on whether I really needed it or not. Now, with space at a premium I've become much more selective but I still have a large collection.

And I've done some pretty large purges, but I stay at roughly the same level of collectibles once it's all said and done. I think if I were to slim down the collection it would take another large purge that would leave only a few favorites outside of vintage and SW.

Over-thinking is what I do. ;)

Keeping general population at a set number is another good control. I had originally thought I would keep no more than 30 items comprising 1/6, 1/12 and 1/1 but with the recent decision to keep Star Wars to a bare minimum it's even less. I'll probably never have more than a total of 8-12 items 1/6 or larger.

And 1/12 is fun but when you're talking about one shelf's worth, it's not a significant concern one way or the other.

One thing I changed my mind about is books. By my early 20's I had amassed a large library (mostly literature and non-fiction) ... but by my early 30's I got sick of lugging it around every time I moved and having it gather dust. I got rid of all except a very, very few I knew I would actually go back and re-read, or that had a major impact on my way of thinking.

Now that I think I may have kids, I wonder if I shouldn't keep more hard copies of great titles around. Sure, there are E-Readers, but a tangible book is a great and tactile experience, and a break from the digital. I work on computers as much as I do with my hands, and it's good to get away from screens sometimes.

Just got R2.

My purchases have been slimmed down a lot over the past couple of years but they've been quality. I love this little droid, a couple of nitpicks but overall happy.

Cost is what has kept my collection down to a minimum. When I started collecting in 08, figures were much more expensive than I was accustomed and comfortable with spending, but you could find some great deals especially for Sideshow figures. I got Bespin Han, ANH Leia, and Boussh Leia for about $20 each, and ANH and Bespin Luke for about $35 each. Those Lukes and Leias are figures I don't even consider anymore since I'm looking at at least $200 for each of those. I have to damn well love those figures/characters. So now my focus is Han since he's my favorite character in the series. At this point I have a nice collection with different characters I'm happy with and I will occasionally get other figures every now and then, but I consider those as "bonus" and they are the exception.

I've mentioned it before, but I am pretty close to having a complete collection I will be satisfied with. I just want good HT versions of Han from all the movies, plus Chewie, and I think I would be okay if HT and Sideshow decided to close up shop. ANH Han isn't great, but he'll do. At least the headsculpt was improved. So just Bespin, Endor and now TFA Han are left. Unfortunately Chewie coming out so questionably really throws a monkey wrench in my plan!

I have a real weakness for books, especially making of books. I always have to have the SW making of books, I have all the Pixar making of books, and most of the Marvel books. That's another thing I have considered cutting back on--I'm really running out of space with all those books and I'll have to start putting many of them in our storage area of our house where they are unfortunately more out of the way and not as easy to grab quickly.

BTW, congrats on R2, Mike!

Speaking of non-Star Wars... :monkey3

I'm having a hard time getting into True Detective this season. I'm three episodes behind and not finding the motivation to watch them.
I'm only 2 eps in. I re-watched the first episode twice, cuz I clearly wasn't paying attention enough, since I was kinda confused and bored... I have to like it, cuz Rachel McAdams has been one of my girlfriends for years... She just doesn't know it yet. Seeing her tonight in an advanced screening of Southpaw.

Same here... I watched the first and was mostly confused and a touch bored. I was very confused and pretty disinterested through the 2nd episode but with the hook at the end of it decided to keep watching. But, I still haven't watched the 3rd episode :lol
Yep, I agree to everything you said. Same situation here.

HOLY MOTHER OF ****!!!!!!! :thud::thud:

Must... order... NOW!!! :panic::panic::panic: I think I can find room in the basement for that! Granted, it won't fit through the doors... And it won't fit in the UPS truck either. Han will have to fly it over... Eh, who am I kidding, that would cost too much. Hiring Nien Nunb would be cheaper...

Man I so pulled a Waller when I saw her in Percy Jackson... I was just waiting for her to grow up a little cause I knew she was gonna be a knockout !
"Pulled a Waller" :lol Yeah, her eyes are amazing... And her, um, hands. :monkey3

I just started a purge! Sold my first item on Ebay in a while! A pin! Should clear $20 after fees. :yess: Imagine what I can do with all that freed up space...
