Re: Freaktacular 2015

Now I need a 6" Slave Leia... *sigh*

And a costume for my wife.. *extra sigh*

Anyways, LaMelnik your GitD Crow pop was shipped today. It sat on a shelf for 3 months, then sat in a box packed up for more. It's loose, but enjoy it! I got it because I needed a bit more to use a discount thing... not a Crow fan myself. *shrugs* Just never got into it, so enjoy him!

Re: Freaktacular 2015

Reading the last few pages, I figured I'd share my view of the Slave Leia issue.

I think Slave Leia was an excellent addition to the film. The outfit not only showed where she belonged in Jabba's mind but also put her in a position to overcome the literal chains placed on her because she was considered nothing more than a pretty object.

That being said, however, I feel the obsession with the outfit is detrimental to the brand. She was put in that outfit because Jabba was a slime ball. By focusing on that look for merchandising, it promotes the image that they approve of Jabba's outfit choice and, thus, the servitude inherent in it.

The obvious answer, of course, is to only sell Leia figures in the slave outfit if they are accompanied by a dead slug mobster, emphasizing Leia's self actualization. Preferably packaged so she is riding the Hutt on his journey to rejoin the ether.

:D

Re: Freaktacular 2015

For me the whole slave Leia issue is symtomatic of the ******** that is Hollywood at the moment. The PG and PC neutering of film that panders to the moral right ruins film for me as an adult. I watched The Martian the other day and f---ing was written exactly as that on screen to protect the rating. Why? There are actually adults in the ****ing audience, the whole concept of the film is geared to appeal to a mature audience yet its censored so a 5 year old can watch it. Yet there's likely the exact prescribed maximum number of "****s" uttered per the requirements of a PG13 film... There's a massive gap between PG13 and R that's just idiotic where content is restricted to the point blood is measured to the literal and digital ml and swear words equal to the run time in PG13 yet R is a pretty much unrestricted.
I believe PG13 was created as a result of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and it not meeting the PG rating. That was 30 years ago. I doubt if Temple of Doom was released today it would meet the PG13 requirements that were established so it could actually be released. Yet in 30 years it's probably fair to say younger audiences are more mature than back then yet censorship standards have gotten more restrictive.
Even this forum stupidly censors things... I can't even be a fan of **** Tracy comics without the holy word detector protecting the innocence of someone.

Re: Freaktacular 2015

I read about that today. I think it's pretty ridiculous, actually. It's part of the storyline...hell, Anakin and his mom were slaves. That's a huge storyline in Phantom Menace. Sure they're not in a bikini, and yeah she clearly looks good in it; but I mean, Jabba lived in the desert! It's like...a costume. Blah, it's just a stupid move that makes no real sense. She's also badass in it, and when she gets the chance she strangles the crap outta one of the biggest gangsters in the universe.

Sure it's just in merchandising, and yeah, pretty much all Slave Leia merchandising has been done in 6" or 3" toys that look like men anyway, but I can't say that I wasn't hoping for an updated Prime 1 Slave Leia. Alas, it looks like it probably isn't meant to be.

I know J. Scott Campbell said the following:

"Daisy Ridley won’t have to fight against anything. Disney is already well on it’s way to wiping out the “slave” outfit from any future products period. You will NOT see and future merchandising featuring the slave outfit ever again. Trust me […] I’ve heard it from two sources. We can’t even draw Leia in a sexy pose at Marvel, let alone in that outfit! We also had a 3-D [Slave Leia] statue killed at a major manufacturer because there will no longer be any [Slave Leia] merchandise."

It all sucks, but it's unfortunate to hear that another statue had been planned.

I'm guessing this may have to do with Fisher bringing up how she wished she'd fought against it, or telling Daisy to fight against having to wear something similar if asked -- which was all silly too.

Which means that previous statues will go up in value wince they will no longer produce them.

Also, **** Disney in their mouse ass for banning Slave Leia.

Agreed. Social groups are choking creativity until it dies.

Re: Freaktacular 2015

It will be interesting to see how dark Disney make their SW movies. ANH was quite tame compared to ESB and I expext TFA will be on the tamer side too. Although based on things I've read TFA does have the potential to be dark.

Dark or Emo? Because emo reminds me of the prequels.

Just a heads up--looks like Susan is giving away the unclaimed Spook prizes today.

On facebook or Twitter?
