I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't believe a new body type warrants a price increase.

The price has been increasing anyway at least with the Star Wars line simply by the passage of time

Thats not exactly true. The price of ANH Leia is only $55

Then again, I like to customize and I know a lot of people here do not so that might not be a solution.

That I think is part of the problem. So of you do like to do that and are very good at it (you included WG). People like me though suck at it and so getting all that out of the box does make collecting a little easier.

I don't think ANH Leia should be more than a figure like ROTS Obi-Wan or ROTJ Luke though.

I remember the reasons given for Anakin (arm) and Kit (head) for being more expensive.

Since then, the base price rose to $55 and the more detailed figures are now $60.
Maybe the $50 was a teaser. I don't know, but the price did rise $5 from Y1 to Y2.

Maybe this is now going to happen to LOTR? And the $70 is the new standard like the Indy stuff is?

I'm not sure either. But bring on the Indy stuff. I will gladly pay $150 for each figure if they are great. :monkey3

Yeah, true. So maybe if they sold figures and then expansion packs to break up the price, that would solve some issues for everyone. SS might even make MORE money that way.

For example, Samwise comes as the figure with one or two key items. Then his backpack and pots and pans could be an expansion pack... and maybe his orc disguise as yet another pack.

Yeah, that's an idea and a good one at that. However, I can see people going this is turning them more into barbies than collectibles.

Yeah it was a good point Wor Gar until Josh had to ruin it with this. LOL!

:slap

LOL! We can have the hobbits hot pink cadilac and house to match!

...

Problem is, if we don't get more support, and what interest there is starts to wane, this line might disappear like so many others...

I could suffer with maybe a few less 'extras' -- no pots and pans and lame-asss bread -- so that these figures could fall into the $54.99 category and get more people back into this line. ...

Like I said earlier: increasing the price every other figure is not going to help this line. Besides, I doubt that all the extra's Sam comes with, really influence the price in a way many of you belive. It's rather an inexpensive means to justify another price increase. The price would have gone up anyway, with or without the pans, with or without the new body. And as long as Sideshow can count on superfans to pay what ever price they ask, they would be stupid not to do so.

I'm not so sure about that. The jump to $70 was quite drastic and has to be directly correlated to those things (new body, lots of details/accessories, etc).

Plus, I can't emphasize enough how impressive the accessories and tailoring are in person. One look at the Sam figure and I knew there was no way these would be $50.

Really? How do you know this? It's much easier to prove or justify the costs going up based on what others say. Unlike with what you're saying where you have no proof they would have just gone up.

One thing to keep in mind for these figures is that they're literally "Trilogy Hobbits." Since they included the elven cloaks, Galadriel's vial, multiple swords, even things like the lembas bread there will be no "Two Towers Frodo" or "Return of the King Sam" and so on. With the exception of the brief minutes they wore the orc armor we'll spend $70 *once* to have a Frodo or Sam from pretty much any scene in the entire series. How much are we going to spend to have a Luke or Padme for any given SW scene they appeared in? ;)

That's why this much talked about "expansion pack" idea would help greatly to keep prices low for the main figure and let the buyer choose how much more money he wants to spend on the goodies. It seems like a sensible solution...

Although I wouldn't buy the pink cadillac for Samwise unless I had Frodo to go in the passenger seat. :)

As long as I can get drag queen expansion packs for everybody, I will be happy.

merciful willikers! This means war!!

The reason why Denethor had issues with his son...

:D

I also think Sideshow is testing the waters with this expansion idea already. Look at the Crumb creature pack and Bubo. Not to mention the Chess table and probe droids. I think there is more to come expansion wise but not necessarily figures. I would like to see environments to put the figures on. Like the stands they used to sell. I would pay for that too. I don't know if accessory packs is the answer though.

Now THAT is the first argument that really makes sense to me. Three figures in one is worth $70... if Sideshow really sticks to that and never makes an other Sam or Frodo version. An acceptable exception would be a SDCC exclusive Frodo or Sam, like they did with the SW Anakin.

Here we go again!! :rotfl
