Okay, so I've had a bit of time to inspect the figures, get them kitted-up and taken some pictures. Overall, I am very, very pleased with both figures. Still have a few minor nits, but they aren't big issues.
And something that is very cool, I think these figures are much better than the prototypes... yep I said it! I'd say Frodo is damn near a 4 star (out of 4) figure, and Sam is just a little bit below that for me
The Good
-The tailoring is unbelievable, even as small as the clothes are they hang very nicely (in general) and even the vests have linings. Frodo's outfit is a thing of beauty... every piece is just excellent.
-Sculpts look great, very impressive looking... Sam is the weaker of the two (which surprised me) but both look great and the paint work on their faces are both very nice. The ringless blue eyes of Frodo really don't look bad in person.
-Accessories are very nice, lots of cool stuff... especially with Sam. Only downer is you can't really logically use Sting and the Exc. dagger with Frodo at the same time.
-Scale, while not perfect... they look great next to the other figures.
The not so good... almost bad
-Ankles and leg joints... kinda loose as we already knew. Not a huge issue on Frodo... but with Sams extra weight he is a pain in the ass to get standing.
-The paint work on the hands does not even closely match the faces. Usually this not a problem for Sideshow, kinda bummed to see it happening here.
- The stands are a pain to get working... I had to get them all the way up under Sam and Frodo's armpits or they would be left hovering over the base. They really should have adapted the stands for smaller figures.
Now for some pics...
Sorry these close-ups kinda suck... these seem to absorb light more than other figures. The earlier shots are more indicative of how they look in hand.
With the rest of the crew... can't wait for Gandalf
