I've got these coming in next week... But from all of the photos thus far... The head paint & possible sculpts are coming off.. Dare I say it as a bit TONNER-ish?!?

Not at all. I was just thinking that I can definitely see Hot Toys' influence in the paint job. The skin tones, the detailing on the lips, it's all patented Hot Toys paint work. If they can get that split shin thing worked out, I really don't have any problems with paying a higher price from Sideshow.

Sorry guys I should have said more. I do think they look great, just a bit doll-ish... I think that need to be made a bit more dirty or something, they have too a clean look, which is giving them that pristine Tonner look... A little bit... I'm not saying they look like tonner made these figures, but they have the clean Tonner look...

Loose in a bad way. :( I spoke too soon. Not all the joints. To be more specific it's the ankle ball joint. I know Frodo won't be taking any ninja poses, but they are not as tight as I would have liked them to be. I am loving that neck joint; great movement.

The plastic used for the head is very HT.

The box does state "in association with Hot Toys." That might not just mean the body.

That is surprising to hear because all of the Hot Toy bodies I have seen have very tight ankle joints.

No splits that I can find either.

Best shot of Sam yet, totally looks like Sean Astin here, great job GB!

When I track down my set... I'll do the crack of doom versions for sure. The clothes, while nice, seem to give them a bit too much bulk IMO. But maybe with a good futzing and water treatment it would look better to me...

Good....goood!!!!!

I thought Crack of Doom versions would be right up your ally, Josh. I'd love to do it too, but I really want to keep my first set "classic," ya know? But I definitely want to do this eventually. The weathering, the cutting and bloodying of Frodo's hand, the red under the eyes, the sweat effects and grime...it'll all be too much fun!!

Thanks MF, appreciate it!

And Josh, I think you're right about the bulkiness of the clothes... its not bad, especially condsidering the size of the figures. But they do look nicer slimmed down.

One interesting thing is that Sam and Frodo have the same body (no extra padding on Sam), but since Sam's clothing items are thicker he actually looks like a fat little hobbit.

:rock Frodo will be the most fun for sure. I loved how haggard he looked by the last film. He was pretty rough at that point.

Frodo looks great! The ankles are a little funky but all props to SSC, sculpt and paint apps are terrific as is the costume. Well done SSC.

Sam looks off to me, not as good as the proto pics, maybe he just needs a repaint.

I imagine with some intent, they made Frodo almost angellic in the first 2 acts probably to make his fall in the 3rd act more powerful, like NOOOO, sweet Frodo could never do that, and it works.

Sam isn't bad, and looks good with Frodo. But still he's a little less exciting although I think still better than the proto. Or at least better than the proto pics on the box.

Sam looks good in that shot GB took nothing wrong at all with him. I think the style the eyes were painted with on Frodo and Sam make them strong Two-Face characters; in some lighting and angles, look stellar, others, they don't look quite like who they should be. I thought the paint apps on Sam's eyes sucked until GB's photos, so now I'm curious to get them in hand and take my own photos and see what I can or can't bring out in them.

The eyes are good... kinda weird looking blown up, but for how small they are Sideshow did an admirable job. Still need to loose the dot though, the eyes are real glossy and would look great w/out the dot.

I think the doll dot is what hurts the eyes on these figures, in some shots, it makes the eyes lose their color between the gloss glare and the white dot, and they end up looking posessed.

If you ask me it looks like Frodo came out just like the Proto! He looks amazing and now I have to rebuy an Aragorn!

My only nitpick coming from the star wars fan inside of me is the chain and the ring are both gold when the chain should be silver! That is not too bad and it is a quick fix. I am stoked for these guys!:banana

Totally agree. And again, Sam looks off from the proto me. I think it's more a paint apps issue, but those early Sam proto pics looked a lot more like Sean. Of course I don't have this in hand so I'm just judging by some of these pics.

Great pics Guys!

Will BadMoon be the first immature person to put these guys in um.....love poses? :dunno :rotfl

I won't do like Wor-Gar's kitchen poses :lol, but I certainly will do shots that reflect the friendship on screen which was at times a bit...awkward.
