They also said in the CIV Q&A that SS' collaboration with HT would extend to all body types.

Yes, the armored body was also a collaboration between SSC and HT.
And it may not say so on the boxes, but in the future there will be more interaction between the companies on specific figures.

What do you mean by tossing them a bone, like Sideshow shouldn't list them as a collaborator? It seems like HT and Sideshow are teaming up on a few products. And while the Prometheus was not made with them, I'm pretty sure the armored body was.

The armored body is credited to Hot Toys. Here's my take on the SSC body development process.

Design Child-Size Body (HT Help) > Design slender Armor Body (HT Help)

After making 2 bodies and having a good understanding of the technical aspects of making such a body, they broke off on their own and used what they learned from Hot Toys and made Prometheus themselves. It'd be nice to know, but my theory is Prometheus was the last body to be developed of the ones we've seen. I think SSC probably would have seen the outcries for armored characters as greater than a need for a new base body, supported by their stance of still using the Buck when they feel it right, obviously they have no intention to phase the body out totally so I imagine the drive to make a new one wasn't as great as the drive to deliver armored figures, something in high demand in Star Wars and LOTR.

First, no harm Josh, I know you're not trying to argue, it's all good.

The reason I think this will be the way of things with new body figures is because A) the new ball joint wrists will mean new hand molds so probably come up with some new hands as they have, Indy has a fist hand, B) Hot Toys, like Sideshow, once used harder material for their heads as well as sculpted necks, but they've taken an evolution to the current materials like the Pirates line and the 2 joint neck, and I think the same will come for Sideshow, these new bodies will start an evolution in the overall construction of figures beyond just what body they're built upon. Just observations based on what I've seen.

It could be. They have to do new hands every so often so I wouldn't think they'd just start doing brand new materials just for that and even the new body isn't something for me. It would make more sense to me if they went to that to get away from paint issues though with the Pirates figures I have I think two of them are a touch too dark still.

I guess for me this way of doing it just doesn't look as great as others seem to think. Then again I think HT figures are nice just not the cat's meow as others do.

All in all I'm most likely wrong.

I mean changing the style of the figures. The way the heads are sculpted to say thanks for helping us. I didn't mean anything else by it other than that.

Yup, the new armor body clearly has HT True Type designs to it, the chest and limb joints.

I don't see why Joshy wouldn't want to see the collaboration continue.

HT has the cutting edge technology and inovation, sideshow has the licenses and unequaled customer service.

Together they are unbeatable.

Where did I say I didn't want to see the collaboration continue? I just said I'm not huge on the way they do the faces. I will say that I am liking how the hobbits came out more than my POTC figures.

Quick pic

love it!! (i much prefer the medicom stands for these guys, the one it came with is just well to big)

I am equally impressed with Sam as I was with Frodo. Sideshow did an outstanding job on both figures!

Sure look like they turned out great. I'm getting mine next week.

Very impressive. I do think 'ol Sam could use some bulking up (stupid fat hobbit). That should be easy though. :monkey1

These figures really do look great - thanks to everyone who is posting pictures. I'm really bummed that I had to cancel these two guys. Well, hopefully I'll have a chance to pick them up soon.

Bring on more pics! :rock

I just came back from the bar and didn't even notice when i took the pic earlier that Frodo was holding the ring kinda. Kewl.:frodo:ring
