I wouldn't bother too much about the specs (processor speed, ram, etc). Android devices are generally strong in those areas because the operating systems require a lot of processing power and memory to even function in normal use - and it varies depending on the device. So, I don't think it's really that big of an issue between the GS 3 and the HTC One. If had to go for one of those phones though, I'd probably choose the HTC One, because of the incredible looking build quality.

Besides the "cheap feel" factor, what other reasons are there for choosing One over S4? I was comparing them online (https://smartphones.techcrunch.com/compare/427-527/Samsung-Galaxy-S4-vs-HTC-One-2013) and it seems the S4 is the better phone....at least on paper.

Read the gizmondo and Engadget reviews. The Samsung has a lot more features. But most of them don't work properly and have been labeled gimmicky. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any phone. Tough decision.

With that said though, I've heard a lot of people say that the "air waving" (can't remember the technical term) feature of the GS 3 is gimmicky, but it's really not. For example: if you're looking at a webpage with another person, and they want to go back a page to show you something, they can simply gesture their hand in front of your phone, without touching and messing up your screen with their dirty fingers.

I think, at least, that's one of the cool features of the GS 3. I'm not so keen on the automatic eye detection scrolling, or the phone's ability to pause videos if you look away from the screen. I'd probably never use those.

If your worried about all the extra crap best option is a factory unlocked phone. My GS2 was a French version. It was factory unlocked( had to pay quite a bit more) but so many things worked better. Like teathering I could do it for free even though AT&T charged extra normally. I kind of regret not going that route for my GS3. I had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get AT&T to give me an unlock code so I could buy SIM cards when I am out of the country. I was not about to pay the roaming and data charges when I could get that for pennies on the dollar with a local prepaid SIM card.

I fully expect a ipad mini phone soon.

That's not going to happen.
What people are guessing they will do is some type of lower cost iPhone and some kind of watch device. Both of which are bad ideas. No need for a lower-cost iPhone when you can get last year's model for $100 or the one before that for $0, and the watch is just stupid.

Pretty much. Apple has really lost their way ever since the demise of Steve Jobs. A low cost iPhone with a cheap plastic casing (like what they're planning) isn't going to sell as much as a more expensive-looking, yet older model, like the iPhone 4.

I do kind of laugh when people say apple is going to fail. Remember when an iPad would never work? :lol

I'm sure they will sell a ton of whatever they make. In fact I have no doubt they are pretty secure at least for the next 5 years. After that we will really see how bad the loss of Jobs has impacted them.

Samsungs flagship device that sells for $199 on contract has a cheap plastic case and people will buy millions. Now imagine what will happen if apple makes a phone available for .99 cents on contract. I think they would sell a ton. There are still plenty of people that buy the non flagship phones to save the money. If apple can provide that service to those types of customers they will gain a ton of customers.

They already do that with the last years model of iPhone, which is why I don't think it's a good idea. Another thing people have talked about is how an iPhone is like the high-end status option. People want them because other people think they are cool, if you can get them for cheap then they devalue their product.

I think though if Apple goes down it will be for other reasons, like the stock market which has already made them lose a massive amount of value. They also can't keep depending on iPhones and iPads for their profit, at some point there won't be enough new customers for smart phones and all that Apple has left is their Mac business which isn't doing that well.

It is concerning that Apple's last product announcement was since last October, and it'll be another five months until we hear anything. They've never been silent for this long.

With that said though, I think that Apple is too "big to fail" at this point in time. They might not be able to retain their top status anymore in smartphones (both in sales and innovation), but people will still buy their products. If anything, they can still rely on their brand name to get things sold. But, I, for one, like the smaller and more compact screens on the iPhones compared to the GS4 and HTC. Plus, the phones look sexy and I actually like iOS :lol.

The only thing I think they have that can actually keep them going if they don't do some crazy new product stuff is iTunes, since people buy most of their music from the service, that's not something that could go away easily even if the iPhone and iPad start to do poorly.

Sounds like the HTC One is better.

That's what I'm leaning towards. If it had the 13MP camera it would be a no brainer. That one is a sticking point with me with having kids. The samsung does appear to take better pics in daylight. That said the One's video is supposedly better. I like the bigger screen on the galaxy. That said I'm coming from an iphone 4s so the One will be a nice improvement there as well.

How's the One's camera in comparison to the iPhone 4s? As far as screen goes, I'd like a bigger screen, but I don't want to carry around a hugeass phone.
