Again, I think people think they must have these. Get them if you can if ya can't don't blame the company.

You know, phrases like: if you don't like it, don't buy it" put an end to EVERY discussion. I've heard that very often around here. Again this thread turns out like all the other threads dealing with SSC's price increases: some are against it, and some 'understand' it. But it's a little different this time. I think that the contra camp is slowly gaining field. Finally. The higher Sideshow sets their price, the more people begin to question their collecting habits. I welcome it. These dolls are indeed luxury goods, and we really don't need them. Should be easy to give that up and spend the cash on what REALLY matters.

And now its turning into a HT vs SS thread:monkey4

More like the SS apologists rolling out damage control vs.The casual collector worried about future price increases.:lol

That said my GTG is on order.......for now!

And yes from the pics so far it does look very nice:gandalf_w

I know, it sucks. Here we are with one of the most anticipated figures ever, it's absolutely perfect, and people are just losing it because of their perpetual demands and expectations. My expectations were high, and I am perfectly satisfied, if not a little OVERJOYED by this! I mean, look at this guy! The sculpt is flawless, the eyes and the shape are amazing, the hat has been specially made of a very particular material to make it look just right (and those softer plastics don't come cheap), and the accessories are amazing! Two staves, and one has the removable pipe and bag of pipe-weed! What more can you people want? For that price I'll gladly take it, totally more than the figures from other companies which are the exact same quality (I've seen their best figures--nothing any better in them ) yet twice the price. You people can say what you will, after all, this is a discussion board and you should be able to say whatever you feel like, but as for me, I think this is one of the best deals I've found in all my days of collecting!
i think he's a great figure. if the finished product looks as good as the prototype i would have paid a lot more for this. it is worth it to me. we probably aren't gonna see too many more LOTR figures. these figures are so slow to come out i use the extra time to save up that extra change.:lol

Its a bummer that such a kick ass announcement like Gandalf, FREAKIN GANDALF!!!!!!, is overshadowed by peoples unhappiness with the price.

I know! I'm as jazzed about this as I can be. GTG next to Aragorn/Strider is my fave. The detailing, paint, likeness, extras are all just mucking awesome!

You spent too much on Jack. I bought mine for 120.00 shipped. Which is only a twenty-three dollar difference.

This is a forum. That is what you are suppose to do. DISCUSS. Some people here are just sycophants.

I bought mine from SS so I don't think it was $150 I was just using that number as an example.

I said nothing about not disucssing. I meant it in the heated exchange it is/was heading. That is not needed which is why I said what I said. People need to learn to read my posts better. :)

$60? Hot Toys human figures generally range from $99 to $135. I think Sideshow is definitely encroaching on HT territory now. (BTW Jack was $134.99, and the upcoming Cannibal Jack who has two heads is only $129.99, so I'm not sure how you managed to spend $150 for him.)

Well, both HT figures I bought and the ones on PO are all well over $100. As a matter of fact at least $30 more than GTG so your statement doesn't hold ANY water.

I'm not for the price increase. I hope I've made that clear with my posts earlier in the day. However, I'm not posting that they're just screwing us totally like some want to act like.

If that's the case, I'm a happy camper. For this quality, I'll gladly pay the price.

It's a nice figure, what is it about this figure that makes it an extra $30 nicer than Old Ben, or an extra $25 nicer than Aragorn? That's what I and a lot of people are having trouble reconciling.

Not really. Gandalf is a extreme case and not the average.

How do you know that? If there was something about him that obviously required more R&D or different materials, I might agree with you, but Gandalf appears to have a simpler costume than the other humans in the line, and maybe a few extra accessories.

Its these kind of stupid statements that really piss me off. I'm so tired of the ****ing fact that I and others don't get in an uproar we're SS apologists. I mean can people be any more dumb?

Doesn't matter you're on ignore so I guess I don't have to worry about you making more dumb statements.

How do you know they all are? You just need to give up a wait :lol

Watch Knight Rider instead, it has been nothing but a laugh so far :rotfl

I said they were encroaching on HT territory, meaning that they're getting close enough in price that people will start to think of them as being comparable. When Sideshow figures cost $50 or $60 and Hot Toys figures cost $130 (this was true not too long ago), I would say to myself that I was getting two Sideshow figures for the price of one HT (or whatever) figure, so I overlooked some minor problems with the SS stuff. In fact, I didn't even consider HT figures because they seemed too expensive. But that kind of rationalization becomes a lot harder to do when the difference is $30 -- especially if the quality of the Sideshow stuff remains unchanged.

$30 isn't that close really. At least I don't think it is. Its closer than $50-60 but not THAT close. The quality of SS stuff is outstanding overall so if it remains unchanged its pretty damn good. Now, I expect it to get better as does SS I'm sure.

i dont care who is better. i buy both. SS has the LOTR license so that is where i go for figures. nuff said. if HT had it then i would go to hot toys and buy em.

Anyway, I'm glad that they finally announced him. It's kind of too bad that people spotted him in the background of that photo on the Sideshow web site, since we all knew he was coming fairly soon, and in fact a lot of people were starting to think of him as "late." If he had been a total surprise it might have helped ease the sting of the price.

If you don't feel it is worth the price, then don't buy the damn thing.
Sideshow does not up their prices for no reason.
They came up with the price for reason.

But, would I love to get the Balrog bust from GG that costs $2000?
Damn Motha F'n straight I would.
But that damn thing is more than I am willing to pay at this time.

Gandalf 12", made by SS, $90, no brainer.

:rotfl:rotflapologist.

Funny how Josh constantly throws around the fact that someone is on ignore. I think it feeds his ego in hopes that we actually give a ****. :lol:lol

From the production blog, discussing some of the work on GTG, sounds like a lot has gone into making this figure as accurate as possible. Compared to Ben I do think there is a lot more detail, maybe not $30 more, but more nonetheless.

Also, LOTR do (typically) have smaller edition sizes so that usually means an increase as well. While $90 a big chunk of change, I'm still stoked to get this figure.

Sideshow’s latest addition to our 12-inch The Lord of the Rings series, Gandalf the Grey displays the outstanding craftsmanship of Sideshow’s amazing team of talented artists and designers. The detailed costume even highlights some of the intricacies of his clothing that aren’t even visible in a viewing of the film, right down to the print work on the hem of Gandalf’s culottes! Plus, the team spared no detail in deciding the list of accessories, including two staves, two sets of hands, the wizard’s pipe, and a removable hat for a broad range of display options. The removable hat is cast in a softer PVC material, with a subtle texturizing technique in the paint for a felt-like look and feel. For a close up view of these amazingly precise details, take a look at some of the design images below, and be sure to place your Pre-Order for the Gandalf the Grey 12-inch figure, especially the Sideshow Exclusive Edition, which includes an added accessory - Balin’s Journal!
