Those hi-res shots are amazing, thanks. The detail is amazing; he's even got the tiny runes on his staff! One of Sideshow's best; I wouldn't change a thing. :D

So when are we going to get Sideshow to put out a Gandalf The Grey 12" figure for us?????????

Come on Sideshow, we are begging.:D

All right, Sideshow wins...

I just re-ordered the Exclusive that I cancelled yesterday.

BUT....

I used Rewards Points to make it $60!

So, I will be paying what I feel this figure is worth. Ha, Sideshow... HA! :monkey5

("But IrishJedi, you also just used 600 Rewards Points for your discount!")

Oh, what the hell. I'm getting Gandalf The Grey! :chew

Good for you, and welcome back to the fold! I think some of us who really wanted Gandalf but were put off with the pricing found our own solution to help ease the pain... reward points!!! I also cut the price in half and felt a whole lot better about it after that. :D

I'd like to have this framed on my wall! This is really a gorgeous pic of the old wizard. Thanks for posting it. I am so glad I ordered him!!!
:chew :chew :chew

Can some please post a pic of this detailed embroidery I keep hearing about. Make it easy for me, I'm a little slow, and I have yet to see what people are referring to on his baggy pants, or whatever the other word for his pants are... Appreciate it.

I don't quite see it when the sculpt is facing forward and painted. Unpainted the likeness is there...otherwise I kind of think it's blah.

Yah, that's how I feel too. So I wonder if it's the way they're shooting it or the way they're painting it. Either way, something is not making me like any of these toys upon first glances.

But call me a sucker cos I bought him anyway. But $90. eeeek. Seeing all the stuff that's coming in 2008, I really need to rethink what I do or don't get.

First of all, I believe the only mention of embroidery has come from Captain Faramir, who was talking about the how the pleats on his inner cloak we sewn. Maybe he misunderstood that the pattern would be embroidered, or maybe he was talking about some other part of the costume.

Some people have assumed that the decorative pattern on his culottes which was mentioned in the production blog was embroidery, but it is in fact just printed onto the fabric, as it says in the blog. There are no pictures of the culottes, and they're just loose pants that he wears under his robes, so you wouldn't normally be able to see them anyway.

In the production blog it did sound like it was going to be embroidered... but I guess it is printed. Not Captains fault, the blog wasn't very clear. I guess Dave had the inside scoop on that one.

Might be right... here is what the blog said about it:

The detailed costume even highlights some of the intricacies of his clothing that aren’t even visible in a viewing of the film, right down to the print work on the hem of Gandalf’s culottes!

Although I could have sworn they used the word embroidery in that... I think the changed it, anyone smell a conspiracy :lol

It never said embroidery, I thought it was pretty clear that it was printed rather than embroidered.

Yeah, i was just kidding about the conspiracy (hopefully that wasn't taken seriously)... but I did misunderstand the embroidery part. But not biggie, I still thought he was worth the money before I ever heard of cullotes.

So... What do people think about the price now that we know Obi-wan is also $90? I still maintain that they just decided that $90 would be the baseline price for premium line figures, and bumped him up to that without any direct connection to how much he actually costs to produce.

It is true that Gandalf has more accessories and even though Obi-wan has armor, I think Gandalf's outfit is almost certainly more labor-intensive to produce. I think it's sort of a wash in that respect. So we're coming down to the difference in bodies again.
