As far as the prototype goes, I agree 100%. However, we have yet to see whether the mass-produced paint apps can even come close to matching the proto. I'll be very surprised it they do. But, of course, my order is still in (has been since day one), obsessive-compulsive Gandalf fan that I am. :D

I'd say the last few items to come out have done a pretty good job of matching the protos.

I know. I'm not saying that they can't match the proto (or at least come really close), but it just seems that, whenever we really get our hopes up, that's when they seem to have problems.

There must be some kind of Murphy-style law in effect that determines how well the production pieces turn out. It goes something like:

"The quality of the production pieces for a 12" Sideshow figure is inversely proportional to the hype built up around the prototype."

;)

it's the scraggly beards - full beards are easy as are no beards. But scraggly beards are a ***** to paint.

Faramir's hair was scraggly. I hope they don't solve the paint apps for them by painting it one solid color. :monkey4:monkey1

Luckily there aren't any more characters with thin beards left to make, except for maybe Eomer. Theoden's is pretty well-defined, the wizards are easy, Gimli's is too thick to worry about in that regard. I don't think we'll have to worry about any more thin beards getting messed up.

Gandalf's, in the meanwhile, is perfect. I love it!

what about when they give us captain faramir in full gondorian riding armor?

Problem is they just paint the beard. Something like a dry-brush or 'black'-wash would probably work better, no?

:huh

:monkey5

That would be AMAZING!!! But it would have to go to Les anyway, otherwise he could never withstand the glory that is my repainted Faramir in ranger garb! Which is anyway my prefered version of Faramir.
your les repaint is my preferred version too. too bad my faramir looks like something you'd dig out of the very bottom of a kindergarten toybox.:monkey2

All the LOTR figures have tended to last a while. I remember Legolas being available for a few days. Not sure about the Hobbits though.

i figure gandalf is probably the most popular LOTR character and if he cant sell out quick then i think i dont need to be in any rush during any more LOTR PPOs.

Indy having a new body and Obi-Wan having a new body and armor at the same price is the reason it's selling so slow. Gandalf on the Buck is looking like a bad deal to folks.
