I would like to stray away as far away as possible from another Faramir mishap.
I'm confident Gandalf should be fine, but without even seeing a production sample from SDCC or something, there's always going to be that small fear of Faramir revisited happening. He was a shocker even, apps had been real good right up to and after him, whatever went wrong, it is possible it could happen again.

Faramir was a prime example of how paint can ruin a superb sculpt.
Yeah, the pics don't lie... well, most of the time anyway!
The sculpt of Gandy is a solid one, and they've done remarkable jobs with many of their recent releases, as you said... Old Ben being particularly outstanding. I don't anticipate any more Faramir-type paint apps on this or any future LOTR figures, hopefully they've learned their lesson with that one!

Perish the thought! So far, the "old man" figures we've seen from SW (Old Ben, Palps, Sids) have been most impressive...and I'm hoping Gandalf joins that league. I'm more concerned about the final execution of the robes...hopefully they are really good. We'll see soon enough if he starts to ship soon...
Yeah, i hate being Johnny rain cloud, I'm just trying to psyche myself down on Gandalf so the end result can only be better than my hopes. GTG is my 2nd favorite character, well Gandalf as a whole, but the Grey costuming is my favorite, and it'll mean as much to me how he turns out as Old Ben.

I do the same, sometimes having lowered/realistic expecations makes appreciating figures much easier.
I'm looking forward to photographing Tim Miller's awesome sculpt work, Ian McKellen's a lot like Alec Guinness, a lot of character in the face, a great deal of his performance had strength because of his facial expression.

Check out the custom commissions thread, see who you like and get their prices, and make your choice! There are many amazing painters here!
For 90$ ^^^^in dollars there's no room for bad paint apps. If they screw up this character they can kiss this lines ass goodbye whether or not they decide to get rid of it or not.

I have confidence in what Sideshow will bring us, but I'm a relentless tinkerer. I can't help but repaint and weather to my little black heart's content.
Heck, Kenobi was PERFECT, but I still repainted him. It's just my way.

(crossing fingers to the breaking point that the paint apps hold up for this amazing sculpt)
I so like the way that the beard and hair work all the way around the shoulders and flows well. It's gonna limit posing the head but that's ok...the look is perfect. Still wish SS had done that for Qui-Gon...

Well i take it we should all be getting charged tomorrow. I hate getting charged without seeing pics, but i have a feeling this 90$ gem HAS to be good so it will be.
(and if it's true that they're doing this HS the same way as the hobbits were are in for a treat.)
