GTW was given a sole purpose upon his return to Middle-earth...GTG was a warm kind, loving old wizard that was leading his normal Istari life until his run-in with Saruman and the Balrog. GTG is a much more LOVABLE character...GTW was quiet, firm, and dedicated to a sole purpose...the defense of and placement of MAN as the caretaker's of Middle-earth. He knew his time was short no matter what and was VERY focused.

Bottom line...we just LOVE the old wizened GTG much better...kinda like we LOVE Obi-Wan the old hermit instead of the glowing version...even though glowing version was in 2 films as opposed to the old wizard version in only 1.

Geb

I hear you, but Idon't question people "liking" him more. I question saying GTG is "core" and GTW is not. I agree that GTG was a lot more easy to like.

IMO both are core. It's Gandalf plain and simple. The only difference is his two parts had different focuses. I like GTG more but I won't turn down a nicely made GTW piece either.

That's pretty much how I feel about it.

Speaking from the films only, I love the speech that Gandalf the Grey gives to Frodo in the mines, maybe my favorite piece in the whole trilogy. Followed closely by the speech that Gandalf the White gives Pippin during the attack on the citadel.

I think that Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White will serve as nice bookends to this line. If both get made, along with all four hobbits, I plan to display GTG with Frodo and Sam, as they seem to share more with that version, and GTW with Pip and Merry.

Not at the time but Ebay usually has a few with a buy it now of $150.

That's about what I paid for my Frodo. Awesome statue, especially at that price. I actually bought it from Fireside Collectibles. Jimmyjames I think is his seller ID on there.

With fairly poor sales of the first 3 LOTR PF's, I don't think we will ever get that far and see GTG made.

Honestly, GTW may be the death of the line. If they have another one close to ready we may see 1 more, but I can't see SS continuing to sink R&D into a line that can't even sell out an exclusive ES of 500 quickly.

Robocop, Lara Croft, and Black Cat exclusives all took a week or more to sell out, no? What's with all the doomsayers calling an end to the line??

Agreed. LOTR SS/Weta is what got me started collecting, and since I'm not really into the 12" figures, the PF figures are what keep me around. I hope SS keeps up this line for a long time to come, I will buy all LOTR PF exclusive pieces that are released.

I'm just worried about it. The line has been VERY slow as is and with an ES of 500 I really thought more people would jump on it a lot faster. Frodo is still in stock and so is the regular Lurtz. Regular edition GTW will be sitting on shelves a year from now too.

That's why I am worried.

If all I had to go on were the pics on SS's website, I would've never bought Frodo either. I know many people got him after pics were posted here. I wish SS would get a f'n clue already and let people send in pics of their pieces that show them in better lighting that actually do these justice.

Agreed, but the Frodo sculpt is still not that good and the paint does not help either. It's average IMO. What makes the piece good is the awesome costume and details.

I like the Frodo piece, but I think GTW needed to be a HOME RUN to win some fans back.

I think you are all wrong, the naysayers on here that is!! I think in time this will be a very collectible item and there will be a whole lot of people who will be very sorry they didn't pick up Gandalf the White by SS in the future, I really do!! I think we are bombarded with brilliant collectibles in every line whether its SW or LOTR or whatever and its becoming very difficult to decide what to spend our money on but in time I do believe we will look back and see just how excellent the SS LOTR collection is/was!! There won't be another Gandalf the White from SS guys, certainly not on this scale!!
