That's why I think a 12" version of the Marvel Legends Mystique from Hasbro woulb be cool :

I have this figure and I can only pretend some dumb story like "she has been shrinked down by Ant-man"...

She does look cool! This Mystique is small and this Mystique is far away.

I already repainted a Hot Toys Harley body from MMS566. It's easy enough, except maybe the elbow joints. There is very little friction everywhere else (even the shoulder and knee joints are OK, they can move without rubbing off the paint) But sculpting individualy all the scales...they are all different and follow some pattern...I know it, I draw a Mystique !

You know I have completely forgotten how much it cost to get my Nightcrawler done. Somewhere around £150, I expect. It's not prohibitively expensive but I will likely be looking at April before pulling the trigger.

I never know where to look for custom artists...or how people hear about them.

Maybe it would be possible to recast à 1/6 body with the Hasbro 6" figure mold ? I don't know. I never made something with 3D printing. All my customs are parts of existing figures mixed together and repainted.
And I am more confortable with smaller figures customs (6" figures) I love 12" figures for movie characters and better likeness, but the clothes are a pain when you want to do something yourself. You don't have much choice and I'm not a tailor...

Many thanks for the detailed response. I'm working on a magik kitbash myself. I've got two different sets of female shoulder/arm/hands armor, if you're interested in them i'd be glad to send them to another magik.

And yes, I would love to!!! Actually I was trying to get that pieces for my Magik, since she is my fav Marvel character.

Same. My first daughter's middle name was illyana because i thought the name was really cool. I figured if i named my daughter after the character, i'd better know her full story. Fell very much in love with the character. Claremont's always maintained his characters were "real people" to him and i felt a strong connection with the character from my own childhood experiences.
Additionally, when my daughter passed very early (like uncanny x-men 303 in a weird twist of fate), the character that i saw a lot of myself in serves as a link to my daughter processing grief. So i have a magik tattoo now, and it's about time i scraped together a kitbash!

I've got tbleague "imperial guardian" and "saintess knight (black)" armor on hand with a "royal defender" chainmail for gaps. I'm weighing keeping the paint/weathering as is for a more realistic look, or painting it chrome or silver leaf with very little weathering for a more comic accurate look (using the soosoo toys warhead jumpsuit so that edges it a little more toward "realistic" aesthetic overall).
I also found a "sword effect for 1/6 scale 12" action figure" on ebay that might be good for an energized soul sword.
Waiting and waiting on the female buck i bought to arrive so i can start mocking things up.
And your portrait choice again, is perfect, so a million thanks again for the info. You can tack on all the bells and whistles, but if it doesn't look like a russian teen then you've got nothin' goin'.

What a beautiful history and conection with the character♡♡♡!!! I really want to see your Magik done!!! Im sure she will look awsome, especially with the armor accessories.
I wish the head would look more like the promotional images, but it still looks perfect. In fact looks better in hand.

OK well I pulled the trigger on a Phicen and some oil pastels. Will see what Pabs Customs are able to do. Waiting on completion of the body before commissioning Rebecca Romijn head.

I have noted concerns about paint cracking on a nude Mystique body. Would fabric paints be flexible and durable enough to mitigate this problem? Would they adhere to a silicon body sufficiently for the scales after all those oil pastels are applied?

It would be good to know what TBLeague is using to do the tatoos on their figures, like the Gethsemoni figure.
But personaly, I fear that even the officiel TBLeague figures will have paint cracking in the future.

Luckily Mystique doesn't need a complicated pose to look bad ass.

I've seen great results using rit dyemore for phicen/tbleague seamless bodies. One of the dyemore colors is even "midnight navy" that i think might avoid any color mixing complications.
Apologies if that's already been gone over, didn't read back to the beginning of the mystique conversation.

I did extensive testing in prep for a weapon-x kitbash a while ago. Both pastels and diluted and thoroughly mixed pastel shavings are color fast, i just fear it's going to be near impossible to get an even finish. Any sort of paint is just not going to work unless it's mixed with silicone and a mineral spirits-type thinner. The silicone you'd use is easiest procured as caulk. There's a specific japanese brand (shin-etsu) that a lot of special effects guys swear by. Pigment is best as powder, but i think acrylic or oil can be used. I never got around to experimenting with it though.

So my strongest recommendation would be the rit dyemore. From a google search it looks like the body is a little slow to take the dye, which helps a lot in just getting to the desired shade without going over.

If its in the cards (wallet) i'd suggest buying a cheap 1/12 seamless body to experiment on first.

I really like the angry head. Good likeness. The neutral head looks a bit too bored.
I heard the clothes are not great, poor quality. Is it true ? I guess nobody tried to customize this figure because of the lack of teenagers clothes available. But it could be fun to make her a new mutant costume or something like that. Not too skin tight...it would be weird for a small kid...
