Well my fellow scientists and I went to see Ghostbusters last night and we loved it. I was never expecting the movie to be the original and nothing ever could for many practical reasons. But this is a Ghostbusters movie and it felt like Ghostbusters. If like me you grew up on the movie and especially cartoon then I think you are going to have a great time and get that feeling you did as a kid. Loved the cast, lots of laughs and the effects were great. Ghostbusters is back in our lives and consider me a fan of the girls! :)

Eitherway, I do hope some have been proved wrong. Though in the modern online world of keyboard warriors, if anyone was proved wrong, they ain't going to admit to are they?! Big enough to dump on something they haven't seen but most certainly not big enough to admit they were proved wrong. Such is the way of the entitled geek.

You enjoyed it and thats what really counts anyway. But why hate on and name call others who didn't.

Check out what's in London Waterloo this week :)

That's some good marketing right there! :)

Irony. You had your preconceptions. They have theirs. That you "hoped" these "entitled geeks" would be proved wrong explains how your review is so rosy when every other 'good' review I've read has been hedged. Insulting them as "not big enough to admit they were proved wrong" is amusing, though.

Don't confuse an insult with a statement of fact. Have you ever witnessed anybody saying "oh I was wrong about that"? As I surely haven't. But yeah, feel entitled to make that statement and just ignore the fact that many of us had to wade through bile. Totally fair that.

It's not hating at all, it's just statement of fact. You act as though no bile has been delivered by some members towards this movie. If anything I am being very polite by comparison.

John McTiernan, director of some amazing movies (Die Hard, Die Hard With a Vengeance, The Hunt for Red October, Predator), and former jailbird, has had a weird life. So it holds to reason that he may also have some weird opinions. This is particularly true when it comes to some of pop culture’s most beloved recent films.

McTiernan was interviewed by French outlet, Premiere, and came away with one of the craziest dismissals of the near-universally loved Mad Max: Fury Road you’ll ever read:

“Pffff … corporate product”

The only way to improve on that is if he had just grumbled “Mediocre!” He then goes on to rail on comic book movies in general:

“…these are films made by fascists”

And Captain America specifically:

“Captain America…The cult of American hyper-masculinity is one of the worst things that has happened in the world during the last fifty years. Hundreds of thousands of people died because of this stupid illusion. So how is it possible to watch a movie called Captain America?”

It’s possible the translation from French to English helped the poetry of this along a little, but the overall impression that McTiernan is a tiny bit grumpy is hard to shake. It’s one thing to be down on comic book movies, though I do wonder if he’s all that familiar with this iteration of Captain America, it’s another to throw out an absolute studio anomaly like Fury Road as corporate product. That seems hard to back up.

In any case, McTiernan is quite a character. He hopes to make a female-led action film in the future, and Fury Road opinions aside, I hope he gets to.

More passive–aggressive, than polite. :wink1: Bottom line,You loved the movie and that's cool. I didn't, but we are all still friends here :duff

My comments were only aimed at those who do the bile. If you were open minded and cool about it and still didn't dig it, that's totally cool. :)

I didn't confuse an insult with a statement of fact. I just noticed the irony of somebody who confirmed his preconceptions criticizing his opponents for confirming their preconceptions. They can't admit when they're wrong. And, neither can you. You've written the most pollyannish review I've seen. The VAST majority of non-haters wouldn't go nearly so far as to say "[...] it felt like Ghostbusters. If like me you grew up on the movie [...] I think you are going to have a great time and get that feeling you did as a kid." Good grief.

You had to 'wade through bile'. You poor thing. Must've been tough for you. All those words, on the internet ... from meanieheads who refuse to give this movie a chance. How are you holding up?

That's one salty dog. Jeez.

But I had no preconceptions. I was open minded from the very start. Many were not open minded. "Poor me for having the wade through bile"? Riiight. Because your not at all defensive here. You decided to talk to me not the other way around.
Irony is most certainly is.

The director of Die Hard is badmouthing the "cult of American hyper-masculinity"? The plague of irony-impairment continues.

You had preconceptions. "This is going to be great!" rather than "this is going to be bad" is still 'closed-minded'. You're just standing on the other side of the door. I'm not open-minded, and I never claimed to be. Self-awareness. Try it sometime.

I'm also not sure you know what irony means.

There is so much (blind) hate being thrown at the movie by people who haven't seen it.
It seems everyone and their brother or sister is posting a review in US and it hasn't opened there yet.
Bizarre behaviour. As far as I know there have only been critic screenings so far so either these people are just making up **** for attention or have a very unhealthy obsession with this movie.
