It could certainly look that way, maybe when the dust has settled you'll see that this really is no different than any other hated reboot, same happened with Fantastic Four when they tried to say it was all because the Human Torch was black.
The only difference of why it looks like a bigger issue than it is, it's because they literally went: "Oh, it's cause we're girls, isn't it? I bet you support Trump"
There's a reason no girl hate talk got any traction in movies like Fury Road or The Force Awakens.

To go one further, This movie was hated on before anyone saw it. Pixels and co were seen and then crapped on because it was bad.

Paul Feig and the actors actually lashed back and attacked the "woman hating fanboys"...in print, social media, tv interviews, and even filmed an additional scene to add to the movie. I do believe that is a 1st. I don't remember any director or actor(s) attacking their fans/haters like this. Fant4st**** was close with Trank and Jordan egging people on, but no where near as bad as this crapfest. And many media people seem to have banded behind this movie and supporting them in their defense. Not too many came out to help Trank and Jordan. And Fant4st**** went down in cinematic history...

Pixels was hated but I guess it had its small group of fans (Because of the retro games)

Because Adam Sandler knows his movies are crap, he knows people know, that he only does them to go on vacation and get paid, there's no sociopolitical agenda there so there's no big news story and no controversy.
But these people couldn't entertain the idea that maybe their movie was crap and that's why people didn't like what they saw, nope, it had to be the patriarchy.
