Re: Gollum PF available NOW!, Link to buy in 1st post...

theres no way the international version will be missing one of the portraits. They'd have to cut the price down at least $100 to sell it.

The whole draw of this item is its like getting 2 different statues.

Just checked my order and its says "Item shipping soon" :lol The spooktacular glitches continue.

I agree. It's more difficult to change it to limit it to one portrait than to just paint the underside of the base with "international version". Make no mistake that this piece is not an ES of 500. The real ES is yet to be determined.

Re: Gollum PF available NOW!, Link to buy in 1st post...

it's a decent piece. But, I didn't order it either. Not really interested.

Re: Gollum PF available NOW!, Link to buy in 1st post...

Exactly, and it's a two way street. There are just as many times when I've ordered something from SS where the exchange rate was more favourable [to me] when I was billed than when I first ordered it....and I've yet to ever hear anyone complain when that's happened. :lol That is a gamble we as international customers all take, and SS can hardly be held responsible for fluctuations in global currencies.

Except you've missed my point, in the past it wasn't a gamble, since if exchange rates went belly up between pre-order and actual shipping (6-9 months), you just cancelled the order.

NOW, it is a gamble, and the amount your playing with is the NRD. You do get that this is a significant difference, which applies to only International customers and is now another factor in deciding what and when to order.

As an International customer of almost 10 years now, I more than get. But it sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too. You want to place your order, and if the exchange rate works to your favour from the time you ordered to the time your billed...fantastic, more money saved and in your pocket. If the exchange rate "goes south", cancel your order and let SS deal with it. Sure, under the old system it wasn't a gamble...for you, but it was for SS. I don't blame SS at all for implementing this new system...people have been abusing the old one for years, and they have a warehouse full of 2nd chance products to prove it.

I can only speak for myself, but I've never let rising or falling currency exchange rates determine whether or not I buy an item I really want, and I'm not about to change that now. If you can't afford to potentially lose $30 on a particular item you're interested in then I would suggest you refrain from ordering it....or stick with the reg. edition instead.

Re: Gollum PF available NOW!, Link to buy in 1st post...

One things for sure, Sideshow just made a cool $15,000.00 no matter what.

Plus the $16,500 from Vampirella too, and whatever on the Hobgoblin so far...

yeah and then some of the pieces also have a cancellation fee on top of the NRD :horror so to cancel it'll cost yeah around $55 for some items.

I guess maybe your exchange rate doesn't move as much, I don't know. For me, around March last year, it was 63c, to now, where its around even. That's a difference of about $175AUD more on the average $300USD statue. Factor in postage and before you know it, something between order and ship could be $200 more. I don't care how much I may want it, an increase of $200 is food for thought.

And remember, it makes no difference to SS, it's still $300USD either way, but it's a hell of a difference down here. So yes, SS can do whatever they like from their business point of view, but equally, I'll do whatever I can to get what I want, at as cheap a cost as possible (that's from my 'business' point of view).

So like I said, the NRD adds a whole extra factor to consider for international customers which don't apply to US buyers.

I sure as hell hope Sideshow is putting the NRD funds towards better production paint apps and quality control.

Re: Gollum PF available NOW!, Link to buy in 1st post...

I'm afraid you lost me there. If you've ordered two of these directly from SS then you already know exactly what you are getting...namely two torso's, two bases, and two nameplates. Why would you cancel one of those if the International version differs from the US version?
.

I've found you again! :lol

I managed to get it into my head that ordering via U.K meant an 'International' piece would be sent out.

Or will it :dunno

:slap

i agree with you about the volatility of the world currency situation and about the only thing you can do to fight it is to get an US account.
that way when your currency is close to par, as it is now put money in it to help when it hits 60 cents.

it's only a matter of time before the USD starts to improve and soon we'll all be paying a premium to purchase from ssc.:dunno

Re: Gollum PF available NOW!, Link to buy in 1st post...

Exchange rates are a factor but they always are when you buy from overseas. If you're worried about that maybe put some money in US currency now.

Still, unless you are buying in bulk, a $30 NRD is hardly something for most people to lose sleep over.

Your points are completely valid and I'm with you 100% in wanting to buy collectibles for as cheaply as possible. Here's a thought......open up a bank acct. and put in it all the money you save when the exchange rate works to your favour [which it will 50% of the time] and use that money to cover the costs of any 10% NRD. :)

I think this is one of the best sculpts of 2010. Unbelievable work from the genius that is Mark Newman.

Hard to argue that point, it's a great looking sculpt .....finally a Gollum statue worthy of our LOTR collections. :lecture

Re: Gollum PF available NOW!, Link to buy in 1st post...

Well I got on the waitlist within 5 minutes of it going from "Checking Inventory" to "Waitlist". Let's see what happens.

...one which had never been properly represented in statue form by any collectible company...

I can't agree with you on that point. I think the Weta Gollum and Smeagol are both pretty damn good.
