Very funny and enjoyable- Drax stole the show. Liked it as much as the first although ending very similar on how Stalord overcomes..oh better not say to keep spoiler free!:rotfl

Went to see it last night. Although not as good as the first, i really enjoyed it. I found it to be slightly too long though.

.

I felt the same way. Baby Groot being crazy cute all the time is what really saved this film from being bad for me. I thought it was trying to be too funny at times. The "villain" , while powerful, was pretty meh

I should have said expectations.

I for one am expecting quite the villain since I've been hearing about this guy since Avengers in 2012. If he isn't Darth Vader level evil, he's an instant fail. Given Marvel's track record of villains, I doubt they will give us anything close to Vader-level villainy.

So Thanos is a pre-fail. :lol

In the books Thanos is a blend of both Palpatine and Vader.

His madness is what makes him particularly interesting and its the thing they need to nail. He's "the Avatar of Death" in the Marvel universe and he never wanted to be. He's a reluctant destroyer, a troubled monster.

This Tweet from Gunn says that there will be, but not for a while.

I somehow don't see Marvel getting that deep with him. Besides all the other villains they are likely to resurrect for IW, Thanos will most likely be just another stock villain -- a gang leader.

I would be pleasantly surprised if it goes another way. Maybe Gunn will do IW2.

I think I can predict your future critique of IW, more than a year before it premieres. I'm going in hoping for a MCU version of Thanos Quest. I think I've read that Thanos is more or less, the main character of IW. The Russo's are confirmed for doing the second movie. While I am hopeful that the Russo's can breath real life into Thanos, I will say it will be massively disappointing if Marvel ****s the bed and delivers a sub-par character.

Thanos is equal parts cosmic powerhouse and tactical/scientific genius. He is a man of his word, but will keep to the letter of his promise if it suits him. Thanos would rather defeat his enemies with his mind, but isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty to get what he wants.

If you really want to see what Thanos' character should be (imo), you should read Thanos quest. A really good 2 part graphic novel.

If you're that familiar with me, I'm complimented. :D

I'm big on villains, and so far, in the entire MCU, there hasn't been one truly delightfully menacing bad guy in the lot. Hot Toys doesn't even seem very inspired to bother making most of them. And I'm not certain I could count them all if there was a test.

Not even sure who I would rank as the best Marvel villain so far. Red Skull maybe? He had the best car.

I'm sorry if I sounded surly in that comment... It just sounds like you are already a bit jaded on the movie and have already made your mind up about it. I apologize if I was a bit snarky.

No, no, not at all. I'm fairly predictable I think many would say around here, and you've been here since my time (2006) so you have good reason.

I added a bit more explanation in my post you might have missed while answering my first line. Like I said, I'd be the first in the happy line to be proven wrong about old Purple King.

Thanos definitely has the potential to be an all time great movie character, not just villain, but him being a CGI character, Marvel's emphasis on heroes and humor, Thanos' redesign, and Brolin's voice, it makes very skeptical.

I want to see him be a physical threat, but I also want the Russo bros to show how smart he actually is and self-aware of his place in the universe. I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of glimpse of his origin, maybe explaining why he looks the way he does, because most people don't even know what Thanos is, since he just looks like a big purple alien that sits on a chair :lol Maybe they'll show the Celestials and how they created the deviants, humans, and eternals. That alone can be a film.

My favorite MCU villains so far are Loki and TWS (when he was bad)...and Ronan because he looks cool and he's ultra serious in a comedy, which makes him kind of silly, but in a good way.

CW proved the Russo Bros. can't supersede Feige & the suits - which is why I'm not confident in IW right now.

I'd much rather have Gunn directing (he seems to be powerful behind the scenes).

Avengers is the biggest thing in MCU, so of course they'd want to be "safe" with it. Hardly anyone knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were before the first movie, so there was less riding on that.

They finally got Spider-Man after Sony's failed reboot. No way they'd want to test things with that big of a character either.

I do get what you're saying though, and I'd love to see Gunn direct IW; it's just that there's no way they'd make the big Avengers finale a "risky move". That's just my opinion tho.

She absolutely loved it, she said much better than any new SW movie, better than GOTG1 and top 3 of MCU movies. She said the exciting thrills alone crushes any of the stale nostalgia driven thrills from my precious RO lol.

My son laughed alot especially during their hyperspace faces lol.

Ok onto GOTG2

Yes I enjoyed it much more than the first BUT more on that later.

Huge movie, much bigger in scope, scale and thrills than the first. Much much much bigger! Did I mention how much bigger it was than the first! Huge!

3D was amaze balls! Dr. Strange 3D is poop compared to this.

Amazing how WB is struggling with their characters while MCU is throwing Watchers, Celestials and a Racoon up on the big screen. Watchers!

Stan Lee cameos need to stop ASAP! Takes me out of the movie immediately.

The humor was more natural and yes of course the soundtrack was excellent, better than from even the 1st. I mean c'mon Fleetwood Mac yo.

Gunn's time at Troma and with B horror movies pays off in the same way it did with Raimi in Spiderman 2, actually more so.

Gunn's handling of scale is good but I still prefer Gareth in that department.

Some of the humor was a little too mean spirited for kids especially the whole ugly thing between Drax and Mantis.

Ok so sure it's bigger in a good way than the first BUT shouldn't Marvel be concentrating on Thanos than wasting time giving us all of this backstory on his daughters!

Marvel should be worrying about fleshing out Thanos than Ravagers or else the MCU would have been for nothing.

Hell it might even be too late for that because IW is next year!

Thor 3 better have some Thanos build up lol.

Yes that's right the general audience now knows more about Ravagers than Marvel's main villain Thanos who is supposed to lead the epic conclusion to a 10 year movie arc.

Btw where were the Avengers during a specific threat!

But how about that 3D. :google

Nobody gives a crap about Thanos- the set up for him being the ultimate baddie has been very poorly handled

3D it is then. What did your son think of the first GOTG jye?

Yeah an absolute must in Imax/Liemax 3D!

My son also enjoyed the first but much more the 2nd. Much much more.

I grew up with SW so no matter what GOTG2 was going to be I will always choose OT RO elements over GOTG, every single time.

Sorry but Y wings just mean more to me than Ravagers and Groot.

So sure GOTG2 was exciting, funny, thrilling and gorgeous to look at in 3D but i'm just an OT RO kind of guy.

I'm going against the grain here....

I nearly walked out. Twice. More is not better. It's just....more.

The audience I saw it with laughed at all the "laugh here" places. It looked slick and well-produced. It was jammed-packed with things that were there to "look cool". It was just dead to me. I guess I'm "marveled out".

Jye brought up something else I noticed...this movie had an undercurrent of mean-spiritedness that was odd, especially at a movie with families and kids as it's main target. Reminded me of "Batman Returns" all those years ago....another follow-up that went head-first into the more is more approach with a big dash of meanness.

Holding out a little hope for "Black Panther" but other than that, after watching this, I realize I'm not the audience for what these movies have turned into....pure spectacle driven cliche fests where the story is almost beside the point. Give everyone their "character moment", tease a little story and get back to the light show.

Oh well...enjoy everyone.
