I'm going against the grain here....

I nearly walked out. Twice. More is not better. It's just....more.

The audience I saw it with laughed at all the "laugh here" places. It looked slick and well-produced. It was jammed-packed with things that were there to "look cool". It was just dead to me. I guess I'm "marveled out".

Jye brought up something else I noticed...this movie had an undercurrent of mean-spiritedness that was odd, especially at a movie with families and kids as it's main target. Reminded me of "Batman Returns" all those years ago....another follow-up that went head-first into the more is more approach with a big dash of meanness.

Holding out a little hope for "Black Panther" but other than that, after watching this, I realize I'm not the audience for what these movies have turned into....pure spectacle driven cliche fests where the story is almost beside the point. Give everyone their "character moment", tease a little story and get back to the light show.

Oh well...enjoy everyone.

Hmm, I fear these might be my exact sentiments as I've felt "Marveled out" for over a year and the trailers have done absolutely nothing for me.

I don't really have high expectations for the DC movies

He said DDCU, not DCEU. I think DDCU may be alluding to some kind of skin flicks. Huh, I never took Snoopy for being a **** man.

The bold is exactly where Gunn succeeds and challenges the safe and accessible formula Feige has creatively bankrupted the MCU for in order to champion.

Gunn didn't make this movie for kids and families and that's a massive win for a franchise that's become the equivalent of a McDonald's Happy Meal.

I feel much the way that you seem to, though I enjoyed it for what it was. I didn't think about the juxtaposition you bring up, but it makes sense to me. The movie was so sanitized, and the thing with baby Groot was so ridiculous and overdone, that it did seem like they are trying to appeal to little kids (no sperm jokes like we got in part 1, to be sure). But the joke that Drax makes over and over is the opposite of what you want kids to be doing. Having said that, most of the kids' movies out there are filled with fart jokes. So, maybe Marvel does know what it's doing here. A 5 year old would laugh pretty hard at someone calling someone else ugly over and over.

Maaaaaaaaaaaan! What a great movie! Did you guys like all the music they used? The 70's rule!!!
Lots of great music from that decade, but I felt the soundtrack for this movie was much weaker than in part 1.

One problem that GOTG suffers from more than the other MCU movies is that the characters are vulnerable when needed then the next second are made of indestructible rubber.

You do realize that it is well known that Gunn is the biggest Feige ass kisser there is.

The guy would have his baby if he could.

Both soundtracks have their standout songs.

Yep I really liked it it. The ending had heart with Yondu and I feel made it a much better movie than I was expecting.

You want to know what's really crazy.

Marvel actually made people FEEL for Yondu...YONDU!!!

While NO ONE cared about Superman's death!!!

I actually liked Yondo a lot more before the 2nd movie :lol It felt like the analogy they were using for Cheers. He started out like Bruce Willis in the first season of Moonlighting. But by the end of the 2nd film, Yondo was like Willis in the latest Die Hard film.

I can't remember how Peter described the hypothetical show that would get "zero ratings" but I remember thinking he was precisely describing the X-Files.

I agree with a lot of this. While I wasn't willing to walk out on it, as the end starting getting closer, I kept asking myself when is this movie going to end? I had to pee really bad too, so maybe that was part of it. I don't think I will be buying this movie, but will give it a second chance at some point.

Not me, I absolutely loved Logan. GOTG 2 fell real short for me. I didn't like Strange at all. I hope Thor is good. I fear that some of these Marvel movies are trying to get too cutesy and funny.

You sure about that? Sure felt like a family friendly movie.

Haha my girlfriend dislikes Michael Rooker and by extension Yondu ...
but damn was she bawling when he died.

I really enjoyed the movie. Felt the emphasis was more on story and character than just blowing stuff up. Did anyone else notice in one of the after credits scenes Peter was talking to Groot and he understood what he was saying. Kind of reminded me of Gremlins when Billy asked the old man how he understood Gizmo, and the old man said to hear one has to listen.

Whoops ... I'm used to staying out of threads of movies I haven't seen once they come out. Thought it was fair game.
