Not even sure who I would rank as the best Marvel villain so far.

Gunn must be a huge Godzilla fan because that ship laser attack in the 3rd act looked exactly like Shin Godzilla's spine lasers from Shin Godzilla.

Not a little either, it was exactly like Shin's.

Btw the use of ship lasers in this is very anime like, something the japanese have been doing since the 70's.

You do realize that it is well known that Gunn is the biggest Feige ass kisser there is.

The guy would have his baby if he could.

What a film director says publicly differs a great deal from what he says behind closed doors.

Favreau's the best example of that. He speaks well of Feige publicly yet basically exited the MCU [creatively] out of hate for the guy after what happened during the IM2 shoot. I know someone who worked on that film for months and actually got to watch the shouting matches between Favs and Feige.

Both soundtracks have their standout songs.

You want to know what's really crazy.

Marvel actually made people FEEL for Yondu...YONDU!!!

While NO ONE cared about Superman's death!!!

Very true on both points.. Some really great songs on both soundtracks and for the characters mentioned in spoiler dead on. I like D.C. and hope they figure out how to make cohesive universe on screen where their characters really matter

I thought he got it from the Last Starfighter. Death blossom!

If you're that familiar with me, I'm complimented. :D

I'm big on villains, and so far, in the entire MCU, there hasn't been one truly delightfully menacing bad guy in the lot. Hot Toys doesn't even seem very inspired to bother making most of them. And I'm not certain I could count them all if there was a test.

Not even sure who I would rank as the best Marvel villain so far. Red Skull maybe? He had the best car.

Has to be Loki. He's the only one they haven't killed off on his first outing. That's given him time to grow. Not even sure Thanos will outdo him unless he permanently kills a few heroes.

Loki is the only Marvel villain I have on my shelf. But I'm not sure I even count him as a villain. He's more like Dr. Smith -- just a troublesome and funny trickster.

I'm going against the grain here....

I nearly walked out. Twice. More is not better. It's just....more.

The audience I saw it with laughed at all the "laugh here" places. It looked slick and well-produced. It was jammed-packed with things that were there to "look cool". It was just dead to me. I guess I'm "marveled out".

Jye brought up something else I noticed...this movie had an undercurrent of mean-spiritedness that was odd, especially at a movie with families and kids as it's main target. Reminded me of "Batman Returns" all those years ago....another follow-up that went head-first into the more is more approach with a big dash of meanness.

Holding out a little hope for "Black Panther" but other than that, after watching this, I realize I'm not the audience for what these movies have turned into....pure spectacle driven cliche fests where the story is almost beside the point. Give everyone their "character moment", tease a little story and get back to the light show.

Oh well...enjoy everyone.

Hmm - well, I just got back. Overall give a 4.3 out of five. Very very good without having the "special something" - editing? script? etc. that IMO makes a movie great. I'd disagree that Marvel films are spectacle-driven cliche fests - if anything I admire Marvel's juggling of multiple story lines across multiple films and I care about the characters.

Also there's not one Marvel movie I don't enjoy watching - some being "better" than others, but all IMO have lots of positives. Well, anyway, GotG2 to me seemed to be stuffed with stuff, but IMO that's not necessarily a bad thing, all the worlds and color etc. Bit heavy on the drama and/or violence. Liked all the characters. I'd happily see it in-theater again and buy it for the collection. Worth seeing in a good theater in 3D (and while I had seen all the trailers shown, the Thor trailer in 3D was awesome!) Scene-stealing Yondu and Groot but everyone IMO was really, really good w. some interesting dynamics.

A packed theater sure seemed to be enjoying themselves w. applause at the end. Onward to Spiderman and Thor! but really I'm just staying entertained until IW.:drool

She absolutely loved it, she said much better than any new SW movie, better than GOTG1 and top 3 of MCU movies. She said the exciting thrills alone crushes any of the stale nostalgia driven thrills from my precious RO lol.

Huge movie, much bigger in scope, scale and thrills than the first. Much much much bigger! Did I mention how much bigger it was than the first! Huge!

3D was amaze balls! Dr. Strange 3D is poop compared to this.

Amazing how WB is struggling with their characters while MCU is throwing Watchers, Celestials and a Racoon up on the big screen. Watchers!

Stan Lee cameos need to stop ASAP! Takes me out of the movie immediately.

The humor was more natural and yes of course the soundtrack was excellent, better than from even the 1st. I mean c'mon Fleetwood Mac yo.

Gunn's time at Troma and with B horror movies pays off in the same way it did with Raimi in Spiderman 2, actually more so.

Gunn's handling of scale is good but I still prefer Gareth in that department.

Some of the humor was a little too mean spirited for kids especially the whole ugly thing between Drax and Mantis.

Ok so sure it's bigger in a good way than the first BUT shouldn't Marvel be concentrating on Thanos than wasting time giving us all of this backstory on his daughters!

Marvel should be worrying about fleshing out Thanos than Ravagers or else the MCU would have been for nothing.

Hell it might even be too late for that because IW is next year!

Thor 3 better have some Thanos build up lol.

Yes that's right the general audience now knows more about Ravagers than Marvel's main villain Thanos who is supposed to lead the epic conclusion to a 10 year movie arc.

Btw where were the Avengers during a specific threat!

But how about that 3D. :google

I enjoyed this as much as the first... First time viewing I enjoyed it more then the first as I did not get why everyone loved the first one so much but repeat viewings helped with that one.

Is this is first Marvel film with a meaningful Death?
Thought it was handled well.

I had no issue with the Humor and thought the "mean spiritedness" actually carried a good message..
As I thought it was obvious that Drax was falling for or at least had strong protective feeling towards Mantis. Thus Loving the person on the inside even thought he was not attracted to her outside... Plus as Aliens they probably would be hideous to each other :lol

I was also disappointed that there was no Thanos.

Hmm, I fear these might be my exact sentiments as I've felt "Marveled out" for over a year and the trailers have done absolutely nothing for me.

I only feel Marveled out because the last film was Dr. Strange and I could care less about that character and overall I thought that film was average at best... I don't really count GotG Marvel movies as they are different enough and I do not know the comics at all.

As a Hulk fan I am of course Pumped for the new Thor!

I don't really have high expectations for the DC movies

Damn WB and their utter mishandling of these characters and films.. WW looks promising though.

While watching this film I found myself thinking... "These really are the new Star Wars movies"

Just in character building and friendship. The Will they or wont they love story, the planets and aliens. The Humor. Basically the overall feel... Of course I should say these are the new "A New Hope" films... As they are fun in that way... Nothing too dark like "Empire" in these films and I am OK with that.

Of course I don't like it as much as Star Wars but if I was 8 years old again these films would be a fav of mine for sure.

I'd say Coulson dying in Avengers was the first meaningful death until the tv resurrection. But still, it created the avengers.
