I could see Chris Pratt being a new rebooted Indiana Jones. (srs)

I already called that. :lecture

As for the dance-off, what I loved about it was that it was so splendidly unpredictable. It fit his character but really, who could have seen that coming? I was just expecting another "Han Solo" moment with someone swooping in at the last second and blasting Ronan before he could destroy the planet (and my money was on Thanos at the time.) But the dance? Brilliant. :lol

I really felt like I was in Clark's head when he was thinking "holy**** Dad, did you just tell me to watch people die and do nothing? Done and DONE!"

Deep and gritty and REAL!

Should have had the whole movie take place on the dark and gritty planet Morag.

Gritty dark and real gritty.

It was worth a chuckle, but Ronan nearly became Dark Helmet in that moment. :lol

You're not wrong about that. :lecture As I said in my original review of the movie the dance-off sealed Ronan's fate as a comedic villain who never overcame his pretty generic look and presence. In fact he was just "okay" enough to not bring the movie down. Lightning struck twice for Disney in the POTC movies with Barbossa and Davy Jones somehow keeping their menacing badassedness in the face of Sparrow's antics but not Ronan. On the one hand that's too bad because GOTG will never be a true Raiders or TWS in quality with such a bland villain but I'd say they still hit a very satisfying in the park homerun regardless.

There's a shocker, mister "this movie is Raiders for the new generation" :D

In some ways though, the Goyer/Snyderverse does fit with "gritty, modern" DC. I remember following the Infinite. . .something or another series (DC has had about 30 of them), the silver age Superboy who survived the classic Crisis on Infinite Earths was somehow turned into a homicidal lunatic, who killed the new Superboy, tried to kill Krypto, etc. This character was the embodiment of all that was good and pure in classic DC, and he was perverted and "modernized" to satisfy the perceived throng of bloodthirsty comic readers I guess. They also made the red haired Luthor from the original Crisis, who was the son of the good Luthor who fought the Crime Syndicate--into another homicidal supervillain, who ultimately is
brutally murdered by the Joker.
I'm glad WB is catering to fans of this kind of thing, because they deserve their movies, but I'm much gladder that the guys at Marvel Studios and Fox aren't.

Well, to be fair Belloq and Toht aren't exactly "great" villains.

I liked Rene because he trolled Indy, but Toht isn't anything to write home about. He has like one or two moments of brilliance, that's it. They ain't no Hans Gruber or Clarence Boddicker.

Didn't even care about Ronan. He's definitely no Loki or Red Skull, nor should he be.

Get out of town. Belloq is the ****. Toht didn't seem meant to be more than a 1-trick pony, as the creepy, sadistic Nazi torturer guy.

Seriously though, I do think Pratt would be a good modern Indy, though he would obviously have to tone his natural comedic tendencies down. Might be a bit bulky now, but. . .

In general I do think several Marvel villains have been afterthoughts. We really need Red Skull back.

We really need Red Skull back.

He ****ing better come back. We've now seen Thor 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy with all these other worlds/universes. There's no reason for him not to be around.

Hugo Weaving needs to quit his belly aching, throw the elf ears in the trash, and go red face again.

I wonder if Weaving's apparent reluctance to reprise that role have played any role in his being gone this long? He played such a major role in the WS comic storyline that I really did expect him to show up in that movie. But he should be THE central villain in the Marvel U considering Doom and Magneto are off limits IMO. And any threat he might present will seem pretty tame relative to Thanos, so maybe they want to wait until that storyline is resolved to bring him back? Maybe he'll help off Evans Cap.

Well he's obviously not going to be in Avengers 2, Age of Ultron. I don't see why he couldn't be in a film after that though. Thor 3, Guardians 2, or the most logical choice . . . Captain America 3.

In one of the earyly drafts/script rotations for the Avengers, I'm pretty sure Red Skull was the main villain. They played around with several characters.

The nice thing about Red Skull is that it'd be incredibly easy to recast. His face can look like whatever he wants his mask to look like.

Your right, Star-Lord should of gone up against what was basically a god to stall him, he would of got one good punch in right? That's gotta be a good 5 seconds gained, or he could of distracted Ronan by ruining his big moment he's be trying to accomplish for so long, annoying him and stopping him from completing his dream as Quill was ruining his moment. The punching Ronan plan is definitely more grounded and realistic tho.

Quill is a buffoon so he is indeed in character in that scene.
The problem is Ronan, in character he would have killed Quill the second he opened his mouth not just stare at him.
Does Ronan really strike you as the kind of guy you can surprise with such a stupid move?
Like I said, bad writing.

Agreed. So disappointing that they didn't let Ronan kill half the world, then snap his neck, then pair up and make out before smugly telling the survivors not to come looking for them as they headed out for a well earned lunch in Italy.

You must only read Mad Magazine (which I love BTW).
From the beginning comic books had dark overtones, including Marvel's.
This was accentuated in the 80's and pretty much became the norm.
Violence, massive destruction and death are very much a part of comics, light comedies they are not.
You may not like it but complaining about the fact that this is reflected in some comic book movies is weird.
