A Marvel character named Mar-vell is just as hilarious as the bad guy in Expendables 2 named Vilain. (But not as confusing as a DC character named Captain Marvel.)

And even more confusing that Mar-vell IS Captain Marvel......but not the DC Captain Marvel....who is called Shazaam these days :google

I'm sorry, did someone say Captain Marvel? :lol

I do think this movie would do fine on it's own though. There are some real crazy characters, plus it's in outer space. It will catch people's attention regardless of whether or not it's connected to The Avengers.

It's going to get really annoying if they start using SHIELD or the Avengers to introduce every new superhero series to the big screen and have them all join The Avengers at some point.

:exactly: :exactly: :clap

They HAVE to connect them. No one except comic fans give a **** about these characters. No one.

In that case no one would care about any Superhero characters that don't have SHIELD or Avengers involved :slap

SHIELD worked to connect the Avengers because it was an EARTH organisation from their own comics that served that ourpose in the comics.

It doesn't work to have SHIELD with any relation to the GOTG as it's an EARTH organisation and wasn't part of their comics in any way.

Hell. I don't. I'm only excited for this because it's a big budget James Gunn film starring Chris Pratt. That alone sold me. I could careless about Star Lord or Draxx whatever

Yeah but you only went to see Spider-Man becuase Raimi was directing and Iron Man 3 because of who the director is. The masses go to see a movie because of the characters and story, not because of the director or because it's in the same universe as some other unrelated movies.

They have to sell it to the masses. Other wise, how's it going to make any money? It's all about money folks. Hate to break it to ya.

Which they'll do by selling the actual movie and characters with posters and trailers and tv spots and toys. It worked for selling Hellboy and others without forcing other non-Hellboy characters in.

The films have to connect to the established universe or else there is no point in making a Marvel Cinematic Universe.

They can exist in the same universe without cramming unrelated characters in, IM3 did it.

Thanos involvement solidifies the connection enough. In GOTG 2 or 3 they can abandon the source material and have them join the Avengers or whatever but there should be at least one movie where it doesn't sacrifice it's story to do so.

It's nuckin futs to have SHIELD in this. If they can shove SHIELD into a story about aliens on the otherside of the galaxy then every MCU movie will have SHIELD shoehorned into it when it doesn't make sense.

Exactly what I was going to say. And when people (who have never picked up a comic in their life) see the trailers for this movie, they'll be far more interested in it than they would have been for Cap/Thor/Ironman.

Of course, but they should let GotG establish it's own story before shoving in SHIELD and The Avengers IMO.

To have them be in the first movie of the series just seems unnecessary. Let the movie be strictly about the Guardians. No SMJ, no Downey Junior, no Thor, no Cap, no Hulk. It's not their movie.

:goodpost:

Perfectly said.

People will see this for the Guardians, there is no need to insert unrelated characters for the sake of it.

Marvel is making billion dollar club movies, they don't want to emulate "Hellboy" type movies which don't make money. :lol

Gotta hand it to you Novawebslingerwolverinelover, you're the biggest troll or the least insightful poster on these boards.

I'm a fan of the GOTG and wants them to be like GOTG. I apologise for nothing, especially wanting the movie to include what it should and not include what it shouldn't just because "dey madez monees" :slap

DC has a Captain Marvel who they call Shazaam now.

Marvel has a Captain Marvel. Lots of different people have used the Captain Marvel Moniker. There's been two girl Captain Marvels as well as a few males....you're gonna have to look up the rest my head is spinning :lol

And i believe DC's Captain Marvel came first not 100% sure though.

Marvel had a Captain Marvel before DC though; technically I don't even know if DC's character can claim the name Captain Marvel due to the Marvel character coming first and being copyrighted.

Here's what I could find on the whole thing.

The character was originally created in 1940 for the long-defunct publisher Fawcett Comics, who ceased publication of their Captain Marvel in the early 50s under legal pressure from DC Comics, who claimed the character infringed on Superman. In 1967, while that Captain Marvel was still in publishing limbo, Marvel Comics created their own character with the name of "Captain Marvel," and trademarked it. So when DC eventually gained the rights to publish former rival Fawcett's Captain Marvel, they couldn't call him that on the covers of any books featuring him.

Instead DC has focused on "Shazam," which is both the name of the ancient wizard who granted young orphan Billy Batson the magical ability to transform into the Superman-like Captain Marvel and the magic word by which the transformation is affected. So DC's 1970s revival was titled simply Shazam!, and over the years we've seen books entitled The Power of Shazam, Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil, The Trials of Shazam, Billy Batson and The Magic of Shazam and now, of course, Johns and Frank's upcoming Curse of Shazam.

You post crap constantly in every thread, not much to stalk there. You took the exact opposite stance with this (not even out movie) that you took with ASM. You wanna post out both side of your mouth, yeah, I'll point it out. And maybe if you didn't troll/ cry about Marvel movies like a baby in multiple threads others wouldn't be calling you out either.

Here's what I could find on the whole thing.

DC sues for Captain Marvel being a copy of Superman, then buys the character after its been out of use for awhile. :lol

Sometimes the behind the scenes with the companies is more "fantastical" than whats going on inside the comics themselves.

I wonder what people will think in 50 years when they read about the whole Marvel comics being split up among various companies for production.

They're officially calling him "Shazam" now. Which I think is extremely corny for the character's name and brings back memories of the crappy Shaq genie movie but it works given his history and all.
