You thought they wouldn't put Shield in this? It HAS to connect to the Avengers. It's not a "stand alone" Marvel movie. It's a continuation in the MCU as a whole. So yeah. Iron Man, Fury, Cap, all those people are going to cross paths with Andy Dwyer.

It's not really news, nor will it affect the film.

It shouldn't connect, at least not right away. It absolutley doesn't HAVE to connect with unrelated characters and of course it'll affect the film.

SHIELD or Avengers shouldn't be anwhere near the Guardians as...

1. They're a ragtag group of outlaw heroes from other worlds who don't take orders
2. They never interacted with SHIELD in the comics and harldy ever were near Earth.
3. They're ln the other side of the damn Galaxy

Since they're ALIENS from the other side of the Galaxy why the hell would an Earth organisation not only be present but give them orders. It's ridiculous.

If every MCU movie will connect they'll **** up lots of characters for he saie of them connecting.

Daredevil shouldn't be involved with SHIELD, nor should Moon Knight with Stark Industries or Thor with Thunderbolts or Pepper Potts with Inhumans ect...

You don't pay to see or even make a Guardians movie to have SHIELD or Iron Man on the screen, it's GUARDIANS and THEIR characters. You can watch those others in their movies if you want them they don't belong in this :lecture

It can take place in the same universe without having to force in unrelated characters in.

The only current MCU character that should logically interact with the GOTG would be Thor or Thanos as they're Aliens.

Avengers/IM3 2.6 billion combined box office.

Call Marvel and give them your ideas. :rotfl

By that logic Transformers and Batman should be thrown into the mix.

Well said.

I hope this rumour amounts to nothing are at the least a little cameo after the credits.

For all of IM3's faults it was the first iron man movie to be 100% Iron Man and his supporting characters and not shoehorn other characters in, that was a big plus.

Guardians should be the same, there's tons of actual supporting characters that should be using screentime over characters completely unrelated to the source material which would have to alter the story to fit in.

I posted this in response to the Quicksilver pullava as to where & with whom i prefer all the character rights...

if Guardians of the Galaxy can show Marvel Studios is capable of telling a story that doesn't force SHIELD or Avengers into it then i'd be fine with them having other characters as then i'd know they wouldn't force Nick Fury into an X-Men movie or SHIELD into the Fantastic Fours life just for the sake of it

Looks like they can't. :(

Oh how i wish they could though, I'm a big fan of Cosmic Marvel, partly because it was away and seperate from the usual Earth stories.

My name wasn't NOVA for nothing :wink1:

Well that's not the best example because Batman/Transformers don't share the same universe. They literally can't be in the same movie.

I'm guessing Marvel's thinking that if they attach anything Avengers related to this movie, it'll increase it's popularity which will increase their profit....which is probably true.

I do think this movie would do fine on it's own though. There are some real crazy characters, plus it's in outer space. It will catch people's attention regardless of whether or not it's connected to The Avengers.

It's going to get really annoying if they start using SHIELD or the Avengers to introduce every new superhero series to the big screen and have them all join The Avengers at some point.

They HAVE to connect them. No one except comic fans give a **** about these characters. No one.

Hell. I don't. I'm only excited for this because it's a big budget James Gunn film starring Chris Pratt. That alone sold me. I could careless about Star Lord or Draxx whatever.

They have to sell it to the masses. Other wise, how's it going to make any money? It's all about money folks. Hate to break it to ya.

But if they make a damn good piece of cinema out of it...who cares if Nick Fury shows up to say 'Hey Chris Pratt, help us out in the next movie when we need you".

I'd suggest no one gave a rats about Iron man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers except comic books fans until a blockbuster movie came out.

Guardians will be the same, if it's a good movie the audience will be there. Growing the audience is almost as important for future projects as making money is.

The way they inter-weave GotG into the earth based MU will be very important. Any alien presence on Earth after the Avengers is going to attract Shield interest, so a Fury cameo would be possible.

That's not necessarily true. More than a few people off the street were familiar with the existence of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, etc. because of various cartoons and video games. Hell, I even consider my self slightly more than a casual comic book fan, and I had NEVER heard of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY before the movie announcement. I have several comic-reading friends who are the same way. The only one I'm even vaguely familiar with in Rocket Racoon. Because he's a talking racoon. With guns.

The films have to connect to the established universe or else there is no point in making a Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That reminds of sitting in the theater during Avengers and having a fangasm at the appearance of Thanos as the rest of the theater sat in silent confusion as to who the hell he was. My guess is the public at large is absolutely clueless about the cosmic Marvel stuff. Tying it in with the earth based characters is probably a good idea.

Exactly what I was going to say. And when people (who have never picked up a comic in their life) see the trailers for this movie, they'll be far more interested in it than they would have been for Cap/Thor/Ironman.

The films have to connect to the established universe or else there is no point in making a Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Of course, but they should let GotG establish it's own story before shoving in SHIELD and The Avengers IMO.

To have them be in the first movie of the series just seems unnecessary. Let the movie be strictly about the Guardians. No SMJ, no Downey Junior, no Thor, no Cap, no Hulk. It's not their movie.

This group is being set up with the sole purpose to have heros that Thanos can kill in A2 since we all know Cap/IM/Thor/Hulk can't be killed.

Coulson served the same purpose at a much smaller scale since secondary heros hadn't been introduced yet before A2.

Marvel was surprised at Coulson's popularity.

Yes, GOTG has potential to be unique, but that small racoon will serve a purpose.
