No they aren't. There's a raccoon and a tree in that picture. To the current audience members, that's stupid and goofy.

Battleship flopped. As did Battle LA. It did alright worldwide. But failed domestically. Not a good example.

:exactly::lecture:exactly:

I'm telling you, this group is nothing but fodder for Thanos.

He will wipe the floor clean with them.

Even Nova. :horror

These ain't no RDJ roles being created here, move along.

Just look at the chosen actors, a wrestler. :lol

Sure I hope the movie kicks ***, but the Avengers need this movie to give heros for Thanos to kill and GOTG needs Avengers for a good box office. :lol

I don't think so. Rocket Raccoon might come off as silly, but not JarJar silly. More like the clever little comic relief badass kind of silly. I know for sure Logan will love Rocket Raccoon.

But either way, when that trailer premieres and they see spaceship battles and all of these characters blowing **** up with weapons and super powers...they'll want to see the movie.

I'm gonna laugh if the GotG characters take the spotlight from The Avengers and Marvel makes Thanos kill them off instead. :rotfl:rotfl

Nova will become Supreme Ruler of Earth on that day.

Are we being serious or...?

Jye was saying that the GotG are simply going to be used as fodder for Thanos because Marvel can't kill off any of their main characters, ie Cap, Thor, Ironman and Hulk. I was joking that maybe the GotG characters will become more loved than the Avengers, so instead of killing off the Guardians, Marvel will kill off the Avengers.

Mwahahahahahahahaha....

Long as Gamora survives for sequels I'm ok with that plan...

To be fair, hasn't Nolan and THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY been mentioned in every single MOS trailer?

Yep. Every single trailer.

But not in the content of the actual movie.

Me and Lar'Ja have said there'll be "FROM THE STUDIO THAT BROUGHT YOU AVENGERS" and the Marvel Comics banner.

That alone, like Man of Steel is all the connection it needs.

People are going to pay to see this whether or not it has connections to The Avengers.

Just to be clear, he's not refering to me, but my previous namesake :D

A lot of people think Nolan directed Man of Steel.

When they see "FROM PRODUCER QUENTIN TARANTINO" they automatically assume director. I know this because all my friends thought Tarantino directed Hostel.

Until we all see the movie it's all conjecture. We don't know exactly HOW it will tie into The Avengers 2, and we don't know WHY it will connect to The Avengers 2. It's all rumors and assumptions at this point. At the end of the day, all we know is that Marvel has a plan, and after Phase 1, I trust them.

We know that it will somehow connect and it only makes sense from a marketing perspective and (again assumptions) a storytelling perspective, that they'd 'shoehorn' in someone we've seen previously in the other movies for the 'General Audience' as it's been stated.

This is Marvel's first real stray from the mainstream comic names, so it will have to deliver big for them to venture out this far away from the norm again. For that to happen, I really do see them needing to have this heavily tie into Avengers 2. Thor was the risky film of Phase 1 and they pulled it off. This is the risky film of phase 2.

What happened in Thor set up the Avengers more than any other film, with Cap coming in a second due to the cosmic cube. But Thor set up the main threat (Loki) in Avengers 1. Its easy to assume Thanos could get set up in GotG. Otherwise it the GotG wouldn't seem to have any connections to the rest of phase 2. And these film are all about the connections now. I doubt we get any one shots anytime soon.

I agree but I also think GotG really needs to stand on its own two feet as well if Marvel wants to expand their "cosmic characters" as well.

The biggest example I'll give for this is Blade (and Blade 2). Granted, it wasn't Marvel studios but you get the idea. The first Blade came out and MANY didn't really know it was based on the comic character. And it shocked people, Snipes was great in the role, the action was fun and well-done and it got two sequels out of the deal and word of mouth spread that this vampire killing movie was actually a pretty good flick.

Same goes with Pirates of the Caribbean. People didn't expect much especially after the pirate genre bombed out from "Cutthroat Island" (which I think was a decent film) a few years back but once people saw it, saw Depp's and Rush's pirate performances, and low and behold...Pirates were cool again and Johnny Depp became a household name. Much like Iron Man has made Robert Downey Jr. a household name.

I want to see Guardians go THAT route. A really unexpected surprise and well-done movie with solid characters and acting. I really think that is what it has to aim for and to achieve to be successful both as a film and at the box office. Now, I'm not going to say it's going to put any of the actors on the same level as Depp, RDJ or Wesley Snipes...but just shock and surprise the casual audience with how good of a "space western" or "space team" movie or whatever feel they're going for, can be.

The problem with your examples is you neglect the reasons why those movies were even seen in the first place.

Blade had Wesley Snipes. A fairly popular actor at the time. And Pirates of the Caribbean...which had Johnny Depp, a pretty damn popular actor at that time. (Not quite as famous as he became afterwards, but he was a selling point).

Cast, and brand recognition.

Pirates of the Caribbean looked awesome. That's why 80% of people went to see it. The other 20% saw it because of Johnny Depp.

Thanks for persuading me to go see Pirates of the Caribbean, trailer footage.

Who directed that movie again? :dunno

You and your trailer crusade. Considering most people find it a nuance and would rather not go through watching them.

Although I will add, after talking with people, that movie trailers are indeed a factor. But I still don't think they are THE factor right now.

I think it really just boils down the brand at this point. Actors aren't even a draw any more.
