Michael Bay is crying so hard right now, that's exactly what he would have wanted Transformers to be like.

Like I said after we saw it at Wondercon....if you like the idea of an oil tanker baseball bat.....you're good to go.

As RIDDICK pointed out this movie is an homage to the entire Japanese Mecha genre. Which goes back way before Evangelion.

Oh, and can't forget the live-action giant monster films and TV shows.

There's no way they could condense Evangelion into one movie and make it coherent. Seeing them in live action would be damn cool though.
