I didn't go into it expecting much after so many bad sequels, but the trailers at least made it look like a passable, enjoyable horror flick ala IT. But what they actually released I found to have all the flavor and appeal of moldy leftovers. Story for this film wasn't terrible but the final execution could have been way better.

It was incredibly bland and didn't even feel like a Halloween movie (Halloween as in the holiday), and to me it had all the entertainment value of watching paint dry. I found at least three quarters of it about as boring and worthless as a horror blockbuster can be; I wanted to walk out really badly. I would honestly take Resurrection over this film because at least that movie knows it's bad and you can laugh at how bad it is.

None of the characters were likable aside from Laurie and you could see everyone's demise coming from a mile away. I would be more forgiving of it had this film been enjoyable but I found it the perfect opposite of entertainment. The only parts I really liked were the opening scene and maybe the third act. Some of the parallels to this film and the original I found clever but none of those few positives were enough to save this steaming pile for me.

This film is still better than the Rob Zombie disasters although that really doesn't say much. If I were forced to choose the five absolute worst films of the Halloween series, then this movie would definitely make that list. I would probably go with H5, H6, Resurrection, H18, RZH1, and RZH2 as the absolute worst.

Do yourself a favor and don't see it. It's a complete waste of your time and money. It's not a Halloween movie, it's not a horror movie, it's not entertaining, it's not enjoyable, and it has no flavor IMO.

3/10

I agree about H18 Chakor.

Regarding RZ Halloween they’re decent slasher movies but crappy movies about the Shape.

That sums up my view on RZ's movies, they're so removed from Halloween that they should have just been released as new RZ movies, had they been marketed as a different name and not used Halloween characters, I think opinion of them would be very different, they're just way off the mark as entries in the Halloween series.

I think the biggest crimes of H18 are putting too much focus on telling a story about Laurie and not feeling like Halloween the holiday/season. The '78 film, while showing a lot of Laurie, was telling a story about her, she just happened to be the main focus of the 3 girls.

A friend told me that the actress who played Linda in '78 was the teacher in Allison's class when she looks out the window and sees Laurie.

I saw H18 this weekend. For me it's not better than H78 but a good replacement for H81.

It wasn't campy and the humor worked well when needed.

The only scene I didn't care for:
When Michael looks into the crib to the crying baby. It gave him some humanity and as much as I wouldn't want to see him kill a baby, I wonder why those few seconds even happened.

Hard to believe that Michelle Williams was in a Halloween film :lol

Boy has she come a long way in her career

I think their idea was just to build up fear of what Michael might do, after killing the boy, you actually worry for a moment that he may kill a baby. It can go one of two ways, one is your view where you see he has some soul, the other way, which is how I took it, is more just a moment of relief but it’s forgotten quickly because he’s then back outside and you’re thinking about who’s next and not looking back on who did or didn’t just die.

Ill take Carpenters drunken movie over this any day lol!

I thought the scene where literally everyone that was outside was in costume was a bit much lol

Like c’mon you just don’t turn a corner and run into the entire neighborhood dressed up and outside at the exact same time that was silly and forced.

Halloween 4 opening credits with the wind blowing with that ghost hanging from the tree perfectly captured the spirit and creepiness needed for a modern Halloween movie but even in that movie it was literally only that 10 second scene that had the proper atmosphere lol

Great point I also thought why do that. A method to his madness does not need to be explained ever.

Boy has she come a long way in her career

There are a ton of famous actors that started off in horror.

Tom Hanks
Jason Alexander
Kevin Bacon
Amy Adams
Jennifer Aniston
Johnny Depp
Matthew McConaughey
Jennifer Connely

The list is quite large that’s just some lol

Green:

”Something that I thought was really cool, that she pointed out, was that, at the end of the first
Halloween, she was upstairs talking to Tommy and Lindsey, and she’s trying to get them to go across the street and get the cops, and she says, “Do as I say.” She said that was a pivotal moment for Laurie, in her transition from innocent, naive schoolgirl, to empowered, confident authority. She said, “I want this movie to be about the ‘Do as I say,’ Laurie.” I get goosebumps, just thinking about it. It became a cool mantra for us, in the writing. We put it in the script.”

Green also admits now that the confusion in the press during production of will H2 be canon or not was of his doing.

He held out until the very last second before filming started of wanting H2 canon meaning Laurie was still possibly his sister. He was convinced by a few in the inner circle to let H2 go which he says was difficult to do at first until he realized that it was the wise decision and that the plot was then liberated to focus on Myers just being a random evil.

IMO , Horror Express was almost as good as H78 , it had great atmosphere , the best imo was de Mendoza as satanic Purjadov and the soundtrack

Is H18 worse than H5 and H6 ?

I would honestly take Resurrection over this

I’m ok with anyone who ranks H3 over H78 because H3 is not a MM story.

I remember H3 opening night waiting for MM to show up and being utterly confused until the very end lol

The movie is not perfect but I love the premise of H3 - ancient Celtic warlock is pissed that Halloween got turned into a commercial holiday, so he uses the very commercialism he despises (masks) to resurrect the Pagan aspects of the holiday. That's pretty clever even if it is cheesy, and H3 as a whole is a masterpiece when compared to this POS.

H3 has a great premise and some good practical kills but that's kind of as far as it goes. It's okay but convoluted and slow af at times.

Friday the 13th part 5 gets credit for being different and daring with no Jason but I still think it's not a very good film regardless.

Hmmm might lower my score of it to a 6.5-7/10 now. Jye stop me. :lol

That’s a great breakdown of H3 it’s exactly that.

I love Cochran he is such a perfect villain his explanation to a tied up Dr. Challis is one of my favorite horror scenes ever.

That kids death is one of the most memorable in horror cinema history just brutal but I also love the hotel lady who gets zapped in the mouth to this day I still jump when it happens lol

That being said yes the movie can be quite clunky and boring at times but I take the good with the bad lol
