Hardly the first time, it’s been shown before outside of the games when he was younger. He doesn’t wear his armour/helmet all of the time in the books either.

The rule for the games is we never see his face so he can be a vessel for the player, which I’ve never really bought because he has a defined personality which wont align with that of the player.

But regardless, this isn’t the Master Chief from the games/books, different timeline, so who gives a **** really.
