I am now 100% convinced people on this forum would _____ about being given money because it wasn't in the right denomination. :lol

I know I wouldn't. I can pm you my PayPal address or regular address if you want to test that theory. :rotfl

I like the gratuitous sex in this show, but agree that it is a bit gratuitous :lol

I don't think the show or story would be hurt if they toned it down a step or two.

You have to admit that if someone posted a $100 give away someone would find a way to _____ about it on here. :lol

Probably some truth there. :lol

Right I mean I don't object to seeing some but a bit much is just that a bit much. Show is pretty awesome as is.

There have been a few times where it has been distracting. If it goes too far, it pulls you out of the show and you become more focused on whether or not you are paying attention to the soft core shenanigans or the plot/dialogue. There are times when it fits the character or moment and serves a purpose, and there are times when it feels gratuitous and that they are simply doing it because they can and want to titillate a certain segment of the audience. If they think the viewers won't pay attention to a dialogue scene unless they toss in some boobs, then they are underestimating the fans. You don't need to have somebody take off their clothes to hold my attention on this show.

I agree with you Tom. The scene on the boat last episode was that way to me. The scene with the religious chick and whatshisface, as well. They didn't need to go that far. They could have begun kissing, then moved out of camera, obviously about to get it on, then cut to another scene. But no, we saw him banging away on the table, and cuts to pieces of the military map thing falling on the floor as he does so, then cuts back to them getting it on, etc. :lol

However, I can understand the red-headed guy grabbing his sister's :)monkey4) boobs and sticking his hands down her pants or whatever. You can demonstrate romantic interest without going that far. But I think the purpose was to really gross out the audience after the fact, and it succeeded for this viewer :lol

Having said all that, I could get the argument that the gratuitous nature of the sex and violence of this show broadly may be a storytelling decision, reflecting the times and situations that are encountered by the characters in the show. But I personally also think by going too far in some cases that it takes away from the really effective dramatic narrative that is playing out.

There are times when the adult content is meant to elicit exactly the response that it provokes given the context of the story. There are times when it gets too self aware and pulls you out of the story. Good storytelling is a matter of knowing when and where to draw that line.

I must be the only one that likes nude women...

To be honest, the only time it bothers me is when I'm watching it on HBOGO during my lunch break at work, otherwise I'm all for it.

Both scenes (the ship captain's daughter) and riding on the horse with his (still not known to him) sister were shown very close to how they were represented in the novel... and I thought that both worked.

The show reflects the novels very well (and Martin's storytelling). I wouldn't want them to change anything-- just continue to add to the budget so we can show the big battles.

My wife has read the books, and I haven't. She commented that in a book, you can be told that there is a sex scene going on, and it's up to your imagination to fill in the blanks and visualize it, or just pay attention to what else is going on in the scene. Once you film it and put it up on the screen, it's not just your imagination, it's you looking at that naked actor or actress. That has the potential to take you out of the story.

I think it was Julia Roberts who said that's how she felt about doing nude scenes--as soon as she took off her top, there's a chance that you wouldn't be thinking about the character or story anymore, you'd be thinking, "Hey, look--Julia Roberts just took off her top!" If there is a justification and reason within the context of the scene, that's one thing--but the reasoning should never be that HBO lets them show boobs and young male viewers like to see them, so that's what we'll give them so they have something to talk about other than the fact that our budget doesn't support large scale battle scenes. (Yet.)
