I hadn't heard this before, but in the commentary for the DVDs they mention the online chatter about "sexposition" scenes. And they do seem to be continuing that tradition - the sex scenes convey a lot of exposition and yet there's also something going on.

For instance, when the soldiers burst into the whorehouse while Rose is teaching... That whole interchange between her and the novice prostitute was laughably gratuitous (and badly acted). The shameless porno humping could have been cut without taking anything away.

I don't think so at all - it made it clear immediately where they were, so that you could make the connection to the baby and what was happening (and that Peter had no control over stopping it - or didn't care). You knew they were back at the whorehouse instantly, rather than having to figure it out through other clues. It's a whorehouse - I don't think it's particularly odd to see people having sex.

Really? Seeing Rose (the Whore) walking around in a room full of naked chicks wasn't enough? You had to see her giving instructions on humping? None of that came off as gratuitous to you? Really?

Another excellent episode in what has become my favorite TV series in a long time...probably since The Wire.

Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that the opening theme's arrangement is slightly different this year/ Nothing major, but some beats seem a step longer.

As far as the sex scenes, I knid of see both points (way for me to sit on the fence, huh?). Some scenes do well to provide exposition, but other scenes come across awkwardly. My GF has been onboard with this series since the beginining, but when there is scene after scene, you have to roll your eyes. She even said "Why is almost every female character a skank?". Not a good way to promote the series to anyone besides a male demographic. At least she gets to see Hodor and Theon's dong.

When there is snowballing going on in Kings' Landing, I guess that is an omen that Winter is coming...

Sorry, that was really infantile on my part, but I couldn't help myself.

No, since it also implies the transfer of duties from the scene last year with Peter giving instruction. No, it didn't come off as gratuitous, but then I'm not annoyed or shocked by sex scenes in a whorehouse. If the scene was unnecessary AND designed to turn someone on, then it's gratuitous to me. Here, I didn't think it fit either requirement - but then, perhaps you found it more arousing than I. :D

Well I do like me some jiggle boobs.. but nah.. I was definitely more annoyed than aroused. :lol

I think you're right. The mix is slightly different, too. The drums seem a little heavier.

Though, for my money, they're still not heavy enough. I'd love to hear this really blown out with some BIG, booming, kick-ass, thundering percussion. Like Kodo Drummers of Japan big. I'd love to hear these guys pound out a version of the theme music!

The issue with the whorehouse stuff is because it's not serving any purpose, the stuff it's going over wasn't that important so there wasn't any need to expand on it, plus it's getting away from the main plot. Especially considering all the stuff that's going on it just makes it more confusing to add more plotlines.
