The last 4-5 episodes of Season 2 were every bit as good as Season 1.

Tim Kring fully admitted the ball was dropped in Season 2 and said that the Writer's strike just made things worse. He is completely focused on Season 3 and that can be only a good thing.
Just getting a bunch of stars to try to save a show usually isn't the best idea. You would think that they would try to fix the actual story of the show, but just getting a bunch of names usually doesn't work
