Home open beta begins tomorrow

It's been a long wait, but we're finally all going Home. SCEE has announced that the service will be available to everyone starting tomorrow. From the looks of it, there'll be no firmware update involved. The Home icon should simply appear under the PSN section of the XMB after a system reboot. As for what content you can expect to see once the open beta begins, there'll be plenty more than in the current closed beta, with more coming soon.

The Far Cry 2 game space will make a return and new content, such as clothing from Diesel, furniture from Ligne Roset and the Red Bull Air Race space will appear. Game spaces for Uncharted, Warhawk and SOCOM will follow "vey soon." Watchmen movie content has also been announced via the press release, including "an exclusive video greeting from Watchmen Director Zack Snyder as well as the latest Watchmen trailer. A selection of virtual Watchmen merchandise e.g. T-Shirts with the smiley face logo, Doomsday clocks and character statues, will also be available in the New Year, ahead of an exclusive Q & A event where cast and filmmakers will meet selected press and competition winners fans within the Watchmen themed environment. Is anyone else having trouble signing into PSN today? My login attempts keep timing out and I get some weird error message (80710092).

What's weird, though, is that I can download updates and such (I just downloaded the "Life with Playstation" app)... I just can't log in to my PSN account. Weird.

I saw the closed beta version of Home on my friends PS3, and just like the second life stuff, I do not get it.

How is this going to compete with Live? Really?

I just hope we are not forced to have to download it....takes too much space

I have a PS3 with a 80 GB drive, yet it only reads 75 GB available - I have one 9.0 gig game on the HDD, yet it says only 55 gig space available...

I am assuming the other 10 are from updates and the like....?

Im having the same exact issue.

I didnt know Home was supposed to be pushed down today. I just wanted to download some more Demos.

I took this from the official Playstation@Home Beta English Forums and it was submitted by the Home Community Manager:

* Technical updates are progressing and as you have probably seen the 1.03 patch is available for existing users already but the service remains unavailable whilst work is carried out
* Service should be back up everywhere early PM UK time although theres no specific time as theres a long list of actions being worked through in Europe, America, Asia and Japan
* New comers to the service will find the Home icon on their XMB once we activate it. You wont have to look for it, it will be easy to spot and will appear under PlayStation®Network. However, if you are online on your PS3 when we activate it you will need to restart your PS3 for it to appear. Watch these forums for news on when that is. It will work like Folding@Home in that the icon will be there and you'll download the service when you first select it.

**Edit 3pm**

Still progressing nicely, now on the testing stage. No eta still as I wouldnt want to guess how long it will take for each region to verify its elements are working but we're getting there.

**Edit 3:15pm**

Not there yet, the testing is still going on, but I wanted to mention a couple of other things that need clarification.

The Far Cry2 and Uncharted spaces will not be available in our region today as the localisation and testing phase is not yet complete. They will follow on later.

Additonally the Diesel and Ligne Roset content will be added next week at the same time as the Red Bull Air Race.
**Edit 4:25pm**
Testing complete and a couple of technical problems have been found. We need to iron these issues out first and I'm waiting to hear how long that might take (I'm not qualified to even guess, its very technical). Apologies, I know you all want to get in but we must get these things right. And please remember, this is a beta and today is our first step into the Open Beta environment and what we're doing today is part of the beta process itself.
**Edit 5:55**
Apologies for the delay in an update, you may have noticed a PSN outage in the last hour. Things seem back on track now although the outage delayed us a little we are moving again. Hope to have another update soon.

So, it looks like it is still on the way for being launched today, but is just going to be what we have already seen in the beta...only difference is that its going to be available to everybody. The newer stuff is supposed to be released within a week.

Wonder how many hours it will take to DL this and get it to work? :dunno :lol

John Hammond: All major theme parks have had delays. When they opened Disneyland in 1956, nothing worked!

Dr. Ian Malcolm: But, John. If the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists.

...and now there are network errors LMAO!!! Swweeettt! Nothing ever works like its supposed to... :rock:rock:rock

It's a ^^^^ing beta you whiney little girls!! It's gonna have problems. Every console has the same problems every time they do a big update like this??!! I don't see why everyone continues to complain about it? You should be expecting it by now!
