I hope it's not just another line that disappears without a trace. I'd love to see a articulated figure of CLU with his cape.

:goodpost:
I'm with you. Just saw the movie and would really be interested in CLU and Quorra figures to go with Sam and Kevin. A Rinzler would be nice too, but that's probably getting greedy.

I'd be shocked since they went through the trouble to get Jeff Bridges' likeness that they wouldn't do CLU. I still thinking we'll get a proper Sam and CLU out of this line but that the issues of lighting up the costuming mixing the media is what is stopping it.

I'm hoping too that it is more of an Avatar R and D issue than a Watchmen issue. Personally I would be ok if they abandoned a light up feature in favor of some kind of reflective material that would shine under proper lighting if it would guarantee we saw a Quorra or Clu.

:hi5: to all!

Have you seen the extras on the dvd? They had batteries/ or some sort of power supply actually in the suits to light them up. Pretty cool.

Agreed. While lights would be freakin' sweet, I'd gladly settle for reflective light blue for Sam/Quorra, and yellow for CLU. Then no worries of fragile electronics.

I NEED them. NEED :lol

The issue isn't the batteries, we've seen that with Iron Man, my thought is that the issue is the materials for the suit itself. They'd have to integrate the light-up panels into the fabrics themselves not to mention the changes in texture. If you made the thing fully plastic like the Spinmaster stuff for example no problem, but going mixed media has to provide issues. In the film they had to change out battery packs repeatedly and remove portions of the suit for the actors because it generated too much heat during breaks and between takes. If it generates enough heat on a 1/6 figure you're talking meltings, damagings especially if any of it is rubber.

The process might be similar but the issues are different when dealing with a toy compared to a full size suit.

Can't come out fast enough- looks spectacular- we get so few vehicles from HT....remember the Batpod and Tumbler?

Actually that's what Medicom did with the Daft Punk figures, they have a reflective material that "glows" with light...

How is this done on the non articulated Sam with the cycle? Does his run simply of the cycle power?

Good question. If I understood it right the only part on Sam that moves is his leg from riding to breaking, his arms aren't articulated (someone will correct me if I'm wrong), so you could have the upper torso be one solid piece with an overlay, powered by one set of batteries. With Iron Man figures that have articulation you have multiple batteries needed which creates a bit of an issue. If I'm wrong though, then it's a bit more of an issue. If Sam is set up to shine complete as if he were a regular figure with no issues at all though that means that nothing is really stopping HT from making it except the thoughts that it won't sell.

Thanks.

That was my thinking about Sam. Sam with cycle looks great but Sam by himself?:dunno I'd be up for a CLU by himself 100% though.

We're still a few months away.

Is anyone else thinking of making a Sam Flynn "real world" version using the extra head? It'll just need some generic street clothes, maybe a motorcycle jacket, and a True Type. I'm just not sure if I should get a slim, narrow-shouldered, or regular TT.

I'm hoping some more pics of this thing will come out soon, something to hold me over until it's out.

Already got a plan on how to display it. An acrylic sheet, marked off with 1/8" tape for grid lines, then spraypainted gloss black, and lit up underneath so the gridlines glow. Sound good?

I would recommend using white acrylic for the base. Then taking a thin sheet of polycarbonate and then tape out your lines and stuff and paint it. Then flip it over and put it on top of the white acrylic. This will give you the look you want but instead of having painted surface, the black surface of the polycarbonate will be a mirror. It will look brilliant.

Actually I was planning on using the acrylic sheet painted-side-down, so the unpainted, glossy side would be up. I have a piece of blue-tinted acrylic I can test out on, and if it looks good, I'll use it.

But your suggestion sounds really great too, if mine doesn't work out, I'll definitely go your way.
