Fiveainone, 303 you say? How is that different compared to Mod Podge and Shin Etsu? Do you have to re-treat every now and then?

I haven't used on collectibles as I'm fairly new to it. But on cars, you have to re-apply 303 because of sunlight, maybe every 3-6 months if you're picky, once a year is enough protection for car rubbers. But for indoor applications at room temperature with no UV, I hope once is enough. Depends on your usage of the figure I guess. If you pose often, wouldn't hurt to apply some on the fragile parts.

I don't know the other two products so I can't really say, but see the descriptions and testimonies on Amazon.

• 303 UV Protectant not only protects against fading, discoloration and cracking from harmful UV rays, but repels dust and stains too helping to extend your cleaning.

• Rinse-free formula leaves a non-greasy, dry matte finish with no odor and is non toxic and water based. 100% free of grease-producing silicone oils and petroleum distillates.

Description from Auto-Geek:

• It will prevent drying, cracking, and fading caused by overexposure to the sun. It was originally formulated for aerospace and aviation applications, machines that come much closer to the sun than your vehicle. 303 Aerospace Protectant is the single most effective protectant on the market.

• Stain resistant. 303 Aerospace Protectant repels water and dirt, and resists stains. Treated surfaces require less cleaning and will remain in like-new condition. It restores the original finish to vinyl, rubber, plastic, acrylic, finished leather, and fiberglass. 303 is never oily or greasy.

• Multipurpose. Use 303 Aerospace Protectant on vinyl convertible tops, vinyl seats, tonneau covers, car bras, vinyl awnings, dashboard, trim pieces, and all over your boat. It is safe on vinyl, rubber, plastic, acrylic, finished leather, and fiberglass. 303 Aerospace Protectant provides the best protection you can provide for a multitude of materials. Nothing works better on clear plastic to prevent yellowing, hardening, and clouding.

•*Most recommended by manufacturers. 303 Aerospace Protectant is recommended by name by more manufacturers of awnings, RVs, tonneau covers, vinyl convertible tops, and spa covers than any other protectant in the world.

Silicone or any rubber conditioner will form a barrier that will cause undesirable results for the application of Mod Podge, if you try that after a silicone product treatment.

Consensus in this thread says if it's cracked use Mod Podge, if it's still good treat it with a rubber conditioner.

Yuuuuuppp! That’s been well documented on several occasions. No one has reported additional deterioration after treatment. Guys have checked in using both methods several times. Also well documented as I’ve been a part of the reporting.

Not trying to be an arse but the information, while anecdotal, is all here.

And I still say it's an absolute farce that this thread is utterly dominated by talk of rubber deterioration and methods of protecting it. To be clear I'm not blaming you guys. To Hot Toys I use the words of D!ck Jones - "you really screwed up". And hey, the old man while I'm at it - "I'm very disappointed"

Really appreciate this post!

Yes, the answers are in the thread... but just because others that have been with this topic for awhile have read them several times, doesn't mean somebody new to it is going to know where to find them in the 5000+ posts here. :)

I for one appreciate anyone willing to take the time to answer questions on caring for this piece. Great community helping each other out. :)

Sallah

Thanks for the the summary!

Well, again, although your sentiments are sound - I'd wager that almost every one of those pages discusses rubber issues in some way. This is what Hot Toys needlessly forced upon us.

Appreciate the input, everyone. Even Lee. ;)

Snake, your biggest regret due to the rubber issue? Didn't you treat yours, mate?

Myself I can't wait to receive the incoming ED and his pal, RoboCop. Though I might keep them sealed until I find another cabinet, my only worry – after reading all the reassuring treatment posts – is that it'll be cracked/deteriorating out of the box. Seeing as it's MISB I'm not overly worried, but you never know considering it was released 3+ years ago. Fingers crossed, but will treat out of the box for sure.

Agree completely, it's a shame - but it's still a very impressive robot & I don't regret the purchase at all! I just wish HT was capable of hearing criticism of their rubber products and stop using it - FFS.

Never did. My mistake I'll admit.

A-Dev is right. This was virtually a problem right at release and this thread is inundated with more talk about how to fix the figure vs the figure itself.

I wouldn’t expect anyone to read the entire thread but going back and checking from about release and going forward would get you what you needed.

Phew! - Finally had a chance to finish this repaint, been doing it on/off, hope you guys like the results! :)

magnificient result.
would look just in place for some "Robocop VS The Terminator" future diorama.

The repaint skills are impressive, and this style would fit a junkyard machine, but why ED-209? This repaint is an 'artist interpretation' of a sort?
Weren't they factory fresh, and recently put in service? They were not some 'Mad Max' style apocalyptic creations -I remember them being brand new of the assembly line in the movie.

Hi ED-209 fans!

First time posting on this site :)

I've forever wanted this kit ever since I saw it announced since I was such a huge fan of the original movie while growing up...but more so of Ed-209 rather then robocop himself ha. However not being a big collector, I couldn't justify spending 400 usd on the thing.

My luck turned however when I came across a pretty bashed up figure in a bargain bucket in a toy hobby shop here in Singapore. It wasn't in the best condition, the dreaded dome problem was present (though in early stages), all the accessories were missing like a couple of the rockets and the remote and no original box. Anyway after some bargaining I managed to get it for a Super reasonable equivalent of 80 usd!

So instead of trying to repair it to 'new' condition, decided to have a bit of fun by trying a bit of repaint to create a weathered version to give it more of story, here's some WIP pics ;). I'm quite inspired by some the Gundam gunpla repaint models people do, so it's little exaggerated....not so easy trying to make it deliberately dirty
