Word from sdcc scuttlebutt is that it's a WWE licensing issue in that Vince owns Batista likeness rights & is denying use. Not sure I buy it because a) why wouldn't this affect Hasbro product too, and b) can't believe Marvel / Disney wouldn't lock those rights down when they signed him in first place.

I find it had to believe because there are action figures being produced and Iron Studios has a statue coming out too.

That's got to be rubbish! That 1/10 statue was made with his likeness, so how on earth did they get away with it? How could the WWE own his likeness from a film where he doesn't even look like his normal self?

Also wouldn't Hot Toys have known that Drax could not be made if that was the case? Why even bother with making a proto if someone held his likeness rights and was denying his use? I could understand maybe them not approving the likeness on the proto but this just seems strange.

it's been a long time since I bought any WWE figures (when I was still in grade school ha), but do they make 12" figures? Maybe Vince specifically owns Batista's likeless rights in that specific size. Meh, I have no idea. Just making a wild guess.

Yeah, not true. If it where the case it would be like how fassbenders magneto got NO merch(or any for first class really). There are Drax figures, folders, statues. marvel would have never signed an actor up who didn't own his own likeness rights. Unless they had a deal with the owner...which negates the problem anyway. And they would have known in advance so hot toys would have never spent the time and money to develop a figure...

I hear the questions...well they did an Xavier and didn't have his rights...that's true. But a different situation beciase they where in negotiations with the actor and it wasn't until after he saw the proto that he decided no merch at all. Different studio with different issue.

With drax there's stuff out already. (Plus the issue is actually a combo of approval from marvel and production. Marvel didn't approve becuase of how the production figure turned out. The tats looked muddy and like something else)

See-if they where doing no merch then there would be no merch. If WWE owned his rights the items produced already would have a WWE logo somewhere. It's part of the copy right laws.

Indeed I am. Preview night was fun. Couldn't get into the Hasbro line, Droids Boba Fett sold out for the night while I was in line, and the Super 7 He-Man pop up store never moved and I split after an hour. Lots of line standing to be jealous of. Still enjoy it though. We shall see what today brings.

My last hope is that Drax is one of the three convention exclusives for 2015..... With one of the three being ironman - tank, there's still a chance that we could get Drax. This convention takes place in HK on July 24th, the convention exclusives should be announced one week in advance of the convention.......finger crossed...

Iron studios does good work.

If (which I don't think is the case) this figure never got released it would not be beciase of hot toys.

But as I said...from what I lnow(up to you if you believe me) the figure is just delayed becuase of production issues which essentially set the figure over last summer/fall. If you know it takes 12-18 months to go from start to finish on a proto you can do the math.
