You could interpret Fury’s statement about Thor to be about extraterrestrials in general. What happened in Captain Marvel sparked the need for a defence, and the incident with Thor reaffirmed that there was still a need. Also Fury’s secrets have secrets. It doesn’t surprise me that he wouldn’t expose any past encounters with aliens. He told the avengers, and the audience only what we needed to know at the time.

True. Fury said to Thor "but you are not the only people out there and your not the ony threat"

sexist? Not sure how her having a v a g I n a had any bearing on her idiotic comments, pre release

All i will say on this is she was 100% correct saying what she said when she said in the context that it was said. The whole she said she hates men or that Marvel studios hates white men is about as true as bigfoot working as a account in LA.

That said are you ordering this figure? i'm still not sure because of the material

yeah, figured you supported her 100% when you called me sexist

I’m gonna pass, only buying figs of my top characters
Shelf room is limited

Kinda wish HT would make the suit a bit looser fitting as it did in the movie. Not as skin right as they’re making it, but alas doing some posing will stretch it I’m sure. This one I won’t worry so
Much about the creasing like I do with my iron spider

Captain Marvel beat a bunch of white men up in the movie. Captain Marvel also beat up a bunch of white men in the USA who tried to orchestrate a boycott. That clearly makes her the most powerful super hero.

Just curious, but did you read the full statement of what she said or only the articles where they cherry picked lines with their own opinion statements? Because most of the quotes that people are saying she said, she never actually said. Except for that “40 year old white man line” in reference to film critics which may have been unfortunate (and maybe somehat idiotic in America’s current climate, of click bait etc), but in context of what she was referring to, I personally didn’t see the issue. But if you did, fine as we’re all allowed our opinions.

The only way to get those other false statements that are being bandied about is that maybe it was got from reading between the lines, and that no matter what she actually said, that’s what she meant. Which is somewhat silly, but oh well.

Makin the suit loser would make for a crappy looking figure. I would want my NRD back if they crapify the figure like that after showing the gorgeous prototype to get people to order. A baggy captain marvel is an atrocious idea

The strategy of those types is a make up a lie then just keep repeating it over and over.

I agree.

But maybe she should have thought ahead a bit though, because as she herself said most film critics are 40 year old white males, and to single them out, brings the risk that they may review her future films more harshly than they would have otherwise. Because she’s only going to be employable for these big films dependent on how marketable she is to the wider general audience etc.

And unfortunately sometimes your statements have to be geared for the lowest common denominator, especially if you don’t want to be misunderstood etc.

Its been shown many times that people now consume only media that reinforces their world view and not ones that challenge it.

Thats why I get all my news and information from Batman comics.

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

Everything still makes sense. I really like how this film added to history within the MCU.

After the events of Captain Marvel, Fury sees the need to find heroes like Captain Marvel so he begins his search under the Avengers Initiative.

Nothing really pops up for a while, superhero or threat, until Iron Man.

Though Fury is slowly able to assemble a group of potential heroes, Thor’s arrival and the power of the Destroyer showed that they were very outmatched. Both in terms of conventional weapons and heroes.

I don’t think he, and perhaps others in SHIELD or the Security Council, were willing to bank the survival of the Earth completely on Stark, Black Widow, and Hawkeye versus even just one Asgardian or other beings out there.

With the Avengers Initiative not going quite as well as he had hoped, perhaps Phase 2 was initiated to create weapons as a back up or even as an alternate plan. There was likely a strong Hydra motive for it as well, with the addition of the events of The Winter Soldier and Agents of SHIELD. Hydra would want weapons that could take out both extraterrestrial threats and heroes.

But the events of the Avengers showed Fury, SHIELD, the Security Council, and the world that there was a team capable of defending the planet, fulfilling his plan.

Of course it was idiotic
Why even skirt around offending your largest base, while promoting your own film?

Of course, if I want to goof on it, I’m a liar and sexist

And I agree it was somewhat idiotic, in that she didn’t think ahead when making those statements (which in my personal opinion weren’t bad at all in context to what she was actually referring to). But she may have been able to make the same point, with out referencing 40 year old white men directly, and as such certain news sites would’ve had less real quote ammunition as it were. Once you’re in the public eye, everything you say can and will be picked apart, and any and all meanings will be attached to what you’ve said, even polar opposite ones.

But no where did she ever say she hates white men, or didn’t want white men to watch her films etc. Now that would’ve been beyond idiotic.

Sometimes you have to say or do what you mean and not cower in the corner worried about what will come next. Nobody will never get anywhere in life like that.

And obviously it did not hurt the movie at all

In general I totally agree.

But an actor or sportsperson etc, is only worth as much as their marketability. Say one small thing which gets taken totally out of context, and suddenly you can lose contracts left and right, and suddenly a promising career can be over in a flash.

It’s unfair, but the higher your profile, the greater the risk, and unfortunately the greater the fall. But I would imagine the larger payslips more than makes up for it :dunno

What’s that adage, any publicity is good publicity.

But as I’ve said I was totally surprised Captain Marvel pulled down as much as it did from the North American box office. Not surprised at all by the International numbers though.

I went in there with an open mind and really couldn't care about all the negative press. That said....

Movie was meh. I never once felt surprised by any of the plot outcomes. Very predictable. And as a character I never felt any emotional connection to her even though I know I was supposed to. Definitely not the worst Marvel movie, but nowhere near the top. Perhaps my view will shift once I see EG.
