I just don't care either way about the actress. She's just that, an actress. If I'm going to hate on Captain Marvel on that alone, I might as well hate on Pepper Potts because she's played by Gwyneth Paltrow.

I didn't mind her solo movie at all. No less likeable than Black Panther who was a totally dull lead character. But man, I just didn't like her in Endgame.

It’s odd she came off more charismatic in Endgame since she shot those scenes before her own movie

Well in her own movie, she didn’t know who she was, kind of like brainwashed. In Endgame she was “more herself.”

Exactly that. In CM she was breaking through years of brainwashing and remembering who she was. Parts of her personality were still there, but she wasn't completely "herself". In Endgame she didn't have anything like that holding her back, it would've been nice to see her interact with others more to get more of a scope of Carol, comfortable as herself.

My friend instantly called Brie Larson the worst actress ever immediately after seeing Captain Marvel with me but I disagree with that. Was it the best acting she could have done? I don’t think so but he audibly groaned during all her moments in Endgame and I just didn’t get it.

What’s weird is that while I did like Brie in Captain Marvel, I liked her WAY more in Endgame and she shot all those scenes first. “Hey, Peter Parker, got something for me?” Made me smile from ear to ear. That was one of the things that screams snarky, confident New Avengers Bendis Carol to me. Hell, seeing her in the black too during the beginning scene with Thor, I thought I was looking at Bendis Ms. Marvel there. Though I do think she can be better. She’s still growing into the role and I know she’s capable. If anything, my problems with the first Captain Marvel film were all from a directing standpoint. I think if they can pull a Winter Soldier level sequel with her, they can turn haters around on her. The same thing happened with Steve. Even after TFA and AV1, people still thought he was very one note and boring and his second film just blew everyone out of the water and I do hope that Carol gets the same treatment.

I do think they should have done the Black Panther route and have Carol he introduced to the GA in Endgame and release her solo film after though do also personally think making her story an amnesia one held it back from being great.

If Marvel was capable of making every movie as good as The Winter Soldier they would do it already.

And really? People hated Steve? From what I remember everyone loved him from the get go and talked about how refreshing it was to see a hero that wasn't just a snarky a-hole.

One character that was turned around by The Winter Soldier though was Black Widow. A lot of people forget that the fans were fairly critical of her in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, wondering why some random shield agent with a gun got to be part of The Avengers.

Don’t take this defensively, but what exactly was the difference between the personalities of a brain-washed Carol compared to her regular self?

Was she a bit wooden in the solo film? Yes. But people fail to realize that the whole idea of the character was that she had been trained to be emotionless. It is hard to tell if this is the acting, the character or the direction. But since most people agree she was more lively one Endgame with a more developed character and director it doesn’t seem to be the case of the actor.

Also I don’t think the people that already hate her will ever come around, it doesn’t matter how good the next film is.

Not true...while I didn't hate Cap I thought he was the most boring and lame character in both his first solo movie and in Avengers 1. It was only after I saw TWS on streaming later on (cause I didn't care to pay to see his sequel since I thought he was a snoozefest boyscout) that I did a complete 180 on him. Went from least fav to most fav character...so kudos to the Russo bros! :clap

Yeah I think she was intentionally playing it a lot more aloof and emotionless in the solo movie due to where her character was at that point, but unfortunately the generic story and flat direction just made her come across even more wooden. Especially since it didn't provide any real insight into who this person was or what made her tick (beyond the fact she likes to fly and has one best friend).

Larson has already proved herself to be too good of an actress though, so I'm sure with a much better story she'll start to win the fans over. Because I definitely remember them not liking Scarlett much either in the beginning.

Like someone stated, she was trained to be emotionless. She didn’t know about her human past until later.
