Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I just hope whatever we get in the end it's pretty close to this… I'm also kind of hoping for the base (because it's awesome) and hoping they don't include it (because I'd guess it will be expensive).

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Though I really have no interest in picking up the figure based off of this piece, I am really anxious to see what HT does with it. Who knows, I might actually like it and try to secure one :dunno

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

This is what I am seeing for the record. You can even see the disc in the ball joint of the shoulder. This may just be pattern recognition on my part but it's what I'm seeing.

THIS!
Save for the right arm joint that you can't really see there.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Okay, wait a minute. How the ____ could anyone think this is a figure? It.. It just doesn't make any sense. How would he move his head with all of those sculpted dreads? What about the Alien inner jaw in his hand? Wtf? The way the body is shaped/turned, the materials.. Just doesn't look anything like a figure.

I haven't been around this thread lately, so if I'm missing somthing, let me know.... But from what I remember reading, it seemed like Takeya was making a statue ^, and HT was making a figure based on the Predator in the statue... So isn't it obvious that THIS is the statue????

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

A figure is definitly coming everybody agree on that fact.
the only thing people are babling about is do the pics we have here are from a fig or from a statue. I definitly see joints.
As for the Dreads they could be bendables.
I had confirmation from Tomm Wong Jr of Plastic Ennemies that its the pic for the proto figure.
It has many details that will either disappear or be modified from the final figure.
Whatever.
You see joints cool.
You don't cool too.
Anyway a full figure is coming based on the work of Takeya.
I think that the main info here.

Who gives a ____ if its this pics or that pic.

I see ____ that looks like joints, but with everything else this thing has, I assume they're not, or there are only certain poseable parts..

If HT is making a figure based on the Pred statue, wouldn't the friggin pred statue come out first?

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Takeya's mostly known for his sculpture but he also made a lot of articulated SIC kamen rider and such (i think he did the dark knight batman designed by mazaku Katsura), i have his vega from Otomo's Harmageddon and he did sculpted it with the articulation in mind.

Yeah you'd think that, but according to some people in here HT just skipped that part and apparently released the figure first. Crazy, right? :lol

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I'm still non the wiser what the hell this is. There are blatantantly visible joints, but they may be non functioning, or maybe it's a posable statue. All i know is that i see joints. If this was a rigid statue as some people believe, then what is the purpose of having gaps where the thigh joins the knee? Seems like something that only hurts the lines of a statue...unless of course it is functional, in which case it makes sense for it to be there. Same goes for the shoulders and elbows. If they're not joints(be they functional or not) then what are they, and what do they achieve aside from breaking up the sculpt in an unaturalistic way?

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I have yet to hear any of the "it's a statue" crowd offer any explanation for the joints other than "there's no joints".

I also don't understand what makes people believe that it's a statue that's being produced. It may very well be a statue but NOTHING not one word anywhere I have read has indicated that it's being released as a statue by anyone.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I'm not on either side because I can't figure anything out. Found these on toy-world.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

So do you say it's still a statue? It looks like a figure for sure in that high res pic plus the placard says it's a 1/6 scale figure and there appears to be pictures of someone working on the new 1/6 body.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Well, I don't know what the smurf to believe anymore.

Either way, Predators don't wear that ____ and I don't like it.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

If that's the actual figure, definite pass. It's just plain stupid and completely un-Predator.

So I guess anyone can slap the Pred mouth and dreads on anything and call it "pop culture predator art".

Coming next;
Harry Predator- The Deathly Predators
Driving Miss Predator
300 Predators
The Fabulous Predator Boys
And many other cultural transformations by using the double mouth and dreads.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

So where you guys arguing that it's a statue arguing that just because you didn't like it?

Also the original Predator design was based on a culture's arms, armor, and dress… I forget which… but anyway I don't think it's too far off the mark for a different Predator to be based on a different culture and it's been shown canonically in Predator 2 that the Predators have both an appreciation and a fondness for Earth combative culture.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Man this Samurai Predator is the coolest looking Predator ever. I can't wait for the figure.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I was hoping that was the statue and that HT would use their new Predator bodies, and make the thing look more like an actual Predator. Not that thing, on top of a pile of killer Italian sausages. I would have got a fig if that happened, but whoever likes that design can have at 'er.

Uhm, okay. No, It honestly looks a lot like a statue, and besides the joint crap, all evidence would point to it being a statue.

P1 wasn't a bunch of Samurai armor though. You don't see them making Predators that have armor EXACTLY like this, do you?

They took an idea, and upgraded it. Made it more unique, more Alien.

I've never been a fan of that Samurai look.. Really, REALLY hate it..
