Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I liked Predators. It wasn't great but was entertaining. You know what's also not great but entertaining? ALL of the Predator movies. For me anyway. They live and die by their creature design and without that creature design no one would have ever heard of "Predator". It would have just been another fairly low budget action horror film.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

That looks like a Predator and Abe Sapien from Hellboy had a kid together :monkey4
The paint is bad on that one, but you can't deny that the sculpt is incredible.

Oh, and these:

MUCH better. I couldn't find one without the Little Mermaid paint job.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Sprig clearly only like just Predators from the Predator movies. No artwork, sculpture, comics, novels, etc inspired by those films "canon" or otherwise or anything AvP.

He's also hilarious to read, otherwise I would have blocked him already.

See, when you assume you make dumb posts like this. I was pretty into the Aliens vs Predator comics, until those started getting put out just to try and make a quick buck. And I'm at least putting reasoning as to why I don't like that stuff in my posts. Unlike you. You just quote posts of other people who don't share your views, and try to troll or flame them for not drooling over this like you do, just for the simple fact "it's outside the box .... it's art".

And if you find me hilarious, then I'm at least doing that as well. What are you doing?

You also have the self awareness of a sea sponge.

i dont like the superpredaturds design. in film and comic art(goro pred!? :gah: ) what i cant believe is that i have a berserker pred in my collection...i boxed him up, but the thought of having that pred still boggles me. :/

i honestly believe Narin's artistic take on a predator design is far superior than what Robert Rodriguez came out with "predators".

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I don't think I'd buy a Scuba Predator.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I like the Predators designs. Don't love, but like. I am in the "don't like" camp for the first AvP designs but dig the pred in AvP:R quite a bit. The AvP:R pred is probably my favorite Pred design other than the P2. The movie is pretty interesting in that it's a teen slasher movie with aliens and predators as the "slasher". As said my favorite film design is the main Predator in Pred2, and I actually think that's a superior film. It's more clever, complex, and interesting in it's plotting and setting.

It would still be a pretty cool slightly alternate realty gang war film if you took the Predator out of it completely. It's very reminiscent of the work of Tony Scott, the Last Boyscout in particular. You can totally imagine both Pred 2 and The Last Boyscout taking place in the same reality.

Predator is kind of think without the monster is just a fairly boring jungle war movie.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

That's about up to par with a samurai predator, or one riding a horse.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

predator SEAL team...sea, air, land hunting party. pred in alien scuba gear could work. :lol

predators may have some cool biomask, but the overall creature presentation was a let down for me. the face looks like an alien spider-ant thing. bigger built yes, but bare minimum gear set up was kinda lacking. using space jandals in a tropical hunting preserve seems out of place. AVP had bladed combat jandals at least. :lol

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I liked the face. It was weird and an unexpected direction but I thought it was a cool look. Made the Preds look alien and unfamiliar again, which is also probably at least part of why some people didn't like it.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I love the design for this figure. Too me this is cooler than the new classic...TO ME IT IS.

I agree I think that classic is kind of boring, I mean all it is is a knockoff of the original.

Narin predator vs Alien dio painted by Joe Dunaway.

^I wish Narrin made figures. I would like to have a figure of that guy.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Yeah, as I said I like the Baroque and high German Gothic designs of his stuff. It's similar to the samurai Pred in that it draws inspiration from existing cultures. I really like that style of design.
