Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

That means the current piece is a statue, but they'll also announce a figure based on its design.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Yeah but even after re-posting it a dozen times people still refuse to believe it. :lol

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

3. HT had to change up the initial announcement (from their FB page) to clarify the fact that the photo (posted on page 1/HT's FB page) was actually a picture of the statue and not a 1/6 scale figure. And that the 1/6 scale figure from HT (inspired by this statue) would be announced later.

Really!? ..so they plan to make a 1/6 figure based on this statue? ..that would be awesome , i love the look of this Samurai pred, but i don't like statues very much.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I'm curious how many ppl are gonna spend $200 for this considering what else will be released in the next year from HT alone. Show of hands............

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

^I will. If the figure is as cool as the statue. I like the fantasy type predator. I even drew one up myself and I like samurai. So this fig is perfect for me.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I may get the figure depending on the price and what else is coming out at the same time. I really like the design but I wonder if HT will develop a new body for him or reuse the new Pred body.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

^I hope the use the same body style that is used for the statue for the figure.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

It's a figure...with magic sasquatch elbows...and fairy dust.

Wait...where am I again? :panic:

I kinda have mixed feelings. On the one hand a new body would be cool and with some repainting could be used for some cool customs but on the other hand I agree with some comments that it is a bit too human looking plus a new body could drive up the price.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

^If HT makes a new body I hope it doesnt make the price shoot up too bad. I wont be payin more than $210.

Maybe we could get the mods to change the title to say "no really, it's a statue. Seriously, look at their FB page. They're no joints, because it's a statue" :lol

Damn, this thing looks badass.

So does that.

I find it funny how many times you have had to make that point. :lol

Easy, you're going to rile the fanboys up, and they'll call you names :lol

Let it go.

You were being pedantic.

It's fine if you don't like the way it looks, but to bash it because of it not fitting into the Predator mythos is :cuckoo:

As for me, I have no interest in Predator and own no related merch, but if they make a figure out of this I would seriously think of getting it.

:exactly:

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

if it's a figure how come the pose hasn't changed from the first leak photo, to the promo shots, to magazine shoot photo, even the plastic enemies photos and this displayed figure in the con, all has the same pose?

For the same reason that all the fully set up pics of Iron Monger are in the same exact pose.

Yeah but the difference is, there ARE pictures of the HT Iron Monger in a different pose.

I don't know about the elbow, but I don't know what's going on with the shoulder if that's not a joint.

I know it's not a figure, but it sure seems like that shoulder must be articulated.... or the guys got some kind of hideous splitting cyst in his armpit.

if you look at the various pictures around the web of the samurai predator, there are joints in both elbows, knees, and shoulders. not to mention the feet even look to be articulated. also he has been shown with a mask on and off. if this is not a figure then it shares almost the same amount of articulation as the standard predator releases that have been happening lately. i really dont care what it is classified as as long as i get a figure of it.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Yeah people keep saying it's a figure… because it looks like a 1/6 scale figure. You can clearly see joints both at the shoulder and knee (and maybe the elbows but that's hard to tell) and it uses the mixed media approach common to 1/6 scale figures. We have also seen photos of the mouth both open and closed, the helmet on and off, and the wrist blades both retracted and extended.

None of this precludes it being a statue… but it certainly looks like a prototype figure to me. I think the press release from Hot Toys, which calls it a diaroma not a statue, is there because they don't know if they're going to include a base and even if they do don't know if it will look like that. They very specifically call it "1/6th scale Samurai Predator diorama project". Nowhere do they say it's a statue and "1/6 scale" is commonly used to refer to 1/6 scale mixed media figures and given this is coming from Hot Toys that leads more credence to it referring to a figure. There may be some official word that calls it a statue but I haven't seen it.

Regardless of if it's a statue or not, it seems pretty clear Hot Toys is releasing it as a 1/6 scale figure and equally clear this might not be exactly what we get as a release.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

why are you loonies arguing whether or not the piece at the show is a statue or a figure? It's not the final figure you will be getting, so it doesn't matter.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Well I think if the Predator is an articulated prototype it's fairly possible it's pretty close to what we will get. If it's a statue then it's more likely that it will serve as inspiration for a figure.

At least that's my take on why it matters.
