Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

psst… they're all made up Predators. They're not real.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I liked Predators. It wasn't great but was entertaining. You know what's also not great but entertaining? ALL of the Predator movies. For me anyway. They live and die by their creature design and without that creature design no one would have ever heard of "Predator". It would have just been another fairly low budget action horror film.
i begrudgingly agree with all of this.

…or it's people who share your affinity for the Predator franchise and like many artists take inspiration from what they love in their work.

Ding ding ding.

No really, some of you here are driving me crazy, in this thread. So much in fact, I had to register an account, JUST to speak my mind.

First off, it seems this has been some of your fist ever exposure to anything Predator that has no direct relation to a film. What you should know is that there have been a multitude of Predator related products for almost as long as the franchise existed, that have no relation to an actual Predator who has appeared on film. From toys and statues, to cards, and vidya-games, and all else in between. Not the first time, wont be the last time. Get over it.

Some of you are also acting as if they are forcing you to purchase these. As if Hot Toys has your neck by a Guillotine. You don't like it? Don't buy it. Simple concept with a simple execution.

Finally, there is a huge fanbase of people, myself included, who are interested in this, and who will be purchasing it (day 1 pre-order). So don't have a fit cause Hot Toys isn't releasing version 3 of the same Predator they released last year (wait a sec, they ARE doing that, lol), and instead they are allowing a brilliant artist to do a fresh take on an old character. More of that, please.

Frankly, I could care less for some of the random Preds in the background in Predator 2. Pretty much every main Pred has already BEEN released, so who gives a flip if we get a special one here and there.

Babies.

while I would have to agree - I am just curious, you sound like someone who is or was in either the movie or toy industry. Yes/no?

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Just a fan, sir. I've seen it all before, however.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I actually really love the samurai looking armor of this Pred. Might have to pull the trigger on this guy just cause hes so different at least armor wise.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

has it been discovered if this is a statue or a figure yet?
i must buy this!

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

I don't mind if people don't like it. That's cool. I just don't see the need to attack Hot Toys or the artists responsible for the figure. That bugs me.

Like it or don't, but to say something like "The rest is just people cashing in and trying to write themselves into the Predator universe." is just mean spirited and goes beyond just simply not liking something.

Agreed although I ____ing hate this thing so ____ing much. :lol

I'm a super hardcore Predator/Alien fan, I love the comics, games, books, movies.. EU.
But I just can't stand this thing.

I don't think their goal with this is just cash, Samurai? Wasn't the Predator based on Samurai stuff? Samurai? Asian? Asian people making Predator statues?
Makes sense to me. :dunno

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

The original Pred was based on some obscure island culture iirc. I wish to hell I could remember the whole story.

I don't see how any one can look at something that clearly required massive amounts of work and think it's just some money grubbing move. If they wanted to just grab money they dont' even need to do what they did with the classic (do an entirely new figure). They could have just re-released the old P1 figure and while I am not business major I'd guess based on cursory eBay sales that they could sell plenty of old P1's.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Collectible Statue)

Yea, my impression of the Pred's origins always lead me toward Island/Jungle cultures of South America (which make the most sense). Or at least the common fictional portrayal of them.

Mask, spears, nets, and various behavioral patterns point to that, and not an Oriental inspired culture.

:lol Chill out you two. People are just expressing their opinions. Some with more "passion" than others, but there's no need to attack others for doing it.

The original movie was originally called The Hunter, and had Jean Claude Van Damme playing what was basically a 6 foot wingless fly looking thing, and after two days of him complaining constantly they dumped him from the cast. James Cameron (who directed it) had earlier worked with Stan Winston on The Terminator and strongly urged them to bring his studio aboard. So basically, they used some of the ideas of what they originally had with the JCVD creature, and added that into what would later become the Predator. They pretty much made that design up in a matter of days.

So we should all thank JCVD for being a whiny _____, or this creature design would never have come to light, and we wouldn't be able to have these discussions today.

Who is complaining? That figure is freaking awesome. Predators are intergalactic hunters from outerspace. I have no problem with this except for the price.
