I hope it has ab articulation in this new body, but judging from the pics so far, It doesn't look like it does. :monkey2

It definitely does not, I agree it should have though as when you start to sacrifice poseability for the look of a figure - it is moving vicariously towards just being a slightly moveable statue like SST's Emperor PF...

I get what you say, but this is a make believe extraterrestrial. I don't how 'realistic' it is supposed to be. If you reffer to the artist trying to keep the original concept of the first Pred created, It makes more sense to me.

And this is where I wanted to get to. Just like we have different races on earth, I always imagined that the Preds should be given a similar treatment somehow. The comics have introduced different clans, the Predators movie showed a different 'race' and now this could be a different one as well.

At the end of the day, I just want figure that looks cool to me. It's not like people will be always carrying pictures of the figures I have and inspect them from head to toe saying 'wow, that is the most innacurte figure ever, this line should be .005mm instead of .0055'.

All the people that have seen my collection instantly recognize the characters aand are impressed by the detail.

Yeah I agree with the fact that this is a cool piece, and the part in bold was my point.

Surely they would have different clans and different looks, but at the end of the day they should look pretty much like the difference between Pred 1 and Pred 2. Each of them look like each other, but at the same time they look incredibly different. Pred2 has darker armour than Pred 1, Pred 2 has different coloration, patterning, more weapons and so on.

Other than that, I get that this is a make believe creature, but this thing, at least in my opinion, shares as much similarities to Stan Winston's original designs as the Dreaded decepticons in Transformers Dark of the Moon. They have dreads, they have mandibles, they have armour, and that's about it.

I mean, I love the concept, I love the armour on this guy, and I freaking love the helmet. But the body needs some airbrushed spotting, and that face needs to go. The dome on his forehead looks like it's been doing sit-ups on his head, and those mandibles freakishly remind me of Berserker's.

So yeah, basically, I have no interest in this thing because it just doesn't remind me enough of a Predator - correction, THE Predator, by Stan Winston. If you love the looks of this thing, then more power to you, and hopefully he turns out as good, if not better than the prototype.

I'll still be sticking around though, to see how this goes. Really interested in how this piece will turn out, the completely new body, complex armour and so on.

I like this but I don't know if I like it enough for the price. If the price was about 100 bucks less than yea I probably would have preordered it already.

I think you missed the point of this "Artist Collection" theme though.

It seems it supposed to be different from the norm, a unique artists interpretation of the standard Predator

A single persons vision of what a predator could be if it was described to them without having any knowledge or view previously.

I have no problem with artist interpretation, I love the Cinemaquette, I love the HT Alien figures..and their Predators aren't that bad either.

But this doesn't even look like a Predator... Weird bubbley head, what appears to be some sort of beard, the body looks NOTHING whatsoever like a Predator, the dreadlocks look like gummy worms..I have no problem with different colored dreadlocks, but rainbow/gummy worm? really?

In fact, without the mandibles and dreads, I don't think you could know that this is a Predator.

It does look like a predator, just not the established predator.

It has the same general shape skull, mandibles with inner jaw, dreads and clawed hands and feet.

As i said it's not supposed to look the same as the existing Predator, but a unique vision of what a Predator would look like if someone read about it but never saw it, an interpretation.

To me, this Pred is like a gorilla and the others are orangutans and chimpanzees. Basically, same thing, just different look.

And I agree the Super Pred faces suck. Hot Toys kind of fixed it in the figure somewhat by not being 100% accuurate. The boots I don't mind and a difference in the usual sandals they wear is ok. They are a digferent type of Preds after all.

And this is where I wanted to get to. Just like we have different races on earth, I always imagined that the Preds should be given a similar treatment somehow. The comics have introduced different clans, the Predators movie showed a different 'race' and now this could be a different one as well.

First of all, no. Hot Toys has never improved a movie design. They made Mr. Black's head look like a squished tomato.

Second of all, if this thing had tentacles and butterfly wings you would still use the "Well, it's made-up, so it's okay." excuse, OR the "Well, Predators showed that there are different breeds of Predator, so it works."

Mr. Black had more scales, and an elongated head. That's totally believable as a different race. This guy has..he just looks..insane. It looks like they took a Predator and added parts from several other movie monsters to him...and replaced his body with a Zombies'

Mutated Predator? Yeah, I'll accept that. Maybe some weird lab experiment.

Believe me, I LOVE variety, but there's a limit. When it stops looking like a Predator, and just some weird monster..

He can be the Sasquatch of the Predator Universe.

The thing I love about Narin's kits, though, is that they look like artistic interpretations of Predators, unlike the Samurai fig in question. Narin has a sense of realism to his preds. He could make a completely new design, even with the patterns on the head and body, and still make it look predator-like with its application and coloration. The armour, though is totally artistic, and I think that's the point of these interpretations. Armour is unique, body patterns are unique, but the whole look and feel, still feels like a Predator.

This Samurai Pred, as much as you want to call the body-builder body artistic, at the end of the day it's just that, a humanoid, exaggerated, human-lookalike body. Nothing artistic about that.

:hi5::rotfl Sooo 100% right!:exactly::goodpost::clap

IT DOES LOOK LIKE A PREDATOR. :gah: how many times do people have to say it to you.

It has all the same principle elements...

  • Same shaped skull
  • Inner Jaw with outer Mandibles
  • Clawed Hands & Feet
  • Dreadlocks
  • Wrist blades
  • Shoulder Cannon

Look at these two human women..

Completely different, different body types, hair facial features, skin tone yet they are both Human Women.

If anything this Samurai Pred isn't different enough to showcase possible variety in the species

:goodpost: good example:exactly:

I know I'm in the minority here...I'm not feeling this figure at all.

And I get it. He could be from a different race, breed, etc. of Yautja, and he's decided to model his gear after the Samurai's from feudal Japan.
I love that concept.
I just don't think it was executed well.

Not saying that I would do any better, but since this predator is not based upon any previous incarnation either in the literature or movies, the artist is free to come up with something different. And that's exactly what doesn't work for me. This figure is just too different from what I'm use to seeing.

I'm having the most issues with the mouth. Primarily, the beard and teeth. I would have stayed with the original formula here.

I agree. That would be my only gripe on the figure too is the beard and teeth. Everything else I like :) Hopefully we'll see some other artist interpretations of the predator breed and whatever spin they put on it. (just no beard and human looking straight teeth though)

Luckily for us, this issue can be solved by simply keeping the biomask on.
But, damn it! Even with the bio on, you can still see those TEETH!

I feel sorry for you.

I believe you were the one asking for a Santa Claus and Tooth Fairy Pred.

When it comes to accuracy on the Berserker, Hot Toys did not do an exellent job. But in regards to making it look more like the Preds, I feel they actually fixed it.

I don't know why you cry about this noy looking like a Pred when it actually looks more like a Pred than the Super Pred faces.

Uhm, it's sad that you actually feel anything for me first of all.

If you didn't understand that the whole Santa/Tooth Fairy thing was a joke, I recommend you take a trip to the hospital as soon as possible.

Not once have I shed a tear over this issue, I don't know why you would continue to state that, because as an insult..it's pretty minute.

And lastly, no. This Samurai Predator's head sculpt most certainly does NOT, I repeat, NOT, look more like the classic designs than Mr. Black's head sculpt.

Mr. Black's head is an elongated classic head with various natural textured patterns.. This guy has a ____ing beard, giant bubble ____ that looks like it's about to explode, those weird holes near the eyebrows, horse teeth, etc... Dunno how many times I've said this.

I understand your sorry sarcasm perfectly. You view things your way, so that does not mean that is true.

The reason I feel sorry for you is that, well, you keep coming here. Why keep coming to keep stating your total dislike for this figure over and over again instead of just staying in the threads of the figures you might like, but after reading many of your posts, there might not be anything you like. You are always complaining about the angle, shape, or color of all the figures.

If someone says anything good or different of something you don't like, you just try to shut them up by trying to make their point of view seem wrong and yours right.

And this is about that, point of view. To you, the Super Pred looks better than the Samurai. To me, they both look good, but I like the Samurai better and I think Hot Toys improved the movie design of the berserker.

You are like those females that are always cranky, negative, unhappy and annoying when they hit menopause. So, are you a girl or a boy?

Are you ____in serious? Kay, here we go.

No ____. It's an OBVIOUS fact that Mr. Black's head sculpt is closer to the original. I'm not "viewing ____ my way", I'm viewing ____ the CORRECT, FACTUAL, TRUTHFUL way.
His head is closer whether you like it or not.

I came back here because of the ____ing Gladiator/Spartan post. Then it was for the Mr. Black stuff..which once again, has nothing to do with the Samurai Predator.
I'm not "stating my dislike" anymore, I'm just responding to posts with FACTS.

And wtf is this? "complaining about the angle, shape, or color of all the figures"? really? I own 5 god damn HT Predators, had 3 HT Aliens. I don't complain, I just don't praise everything like you obsessed fanboys do. I'm honest.

At the beginning of this thread I'll admit my hatred for the Samurai armor designs was unfair.

If someone says anything good or different of something you don't like, you just try to shut them up by trying to make their point of view seem wrong and yours right.
That's just not true.
I don't "try to shut them up", but I will question as to why they are saying these specific things.. A lot of times it's not a point of view, it's the truth.
Like, truthfully, Mr. Black's head resembles the classic design more than this one's does. That's not a personal opinion..it's the truth, it does.

You are like those females that are always cranky, negative, unhappy and annoying when they hit menopause. So, are you a girl or a boy?
And see right here? You are so convinced that I'm being rude and unfair, yet you shoot these pathetic insults at me.

What a douchey little hypocrite.

Oh, I'm probably done.

I doubt that somehow, you'll come back to say something else un-favourable about this figure and it'll annoy someone else into calling you out about trolling and it'll start all over again :(

Unless you keep comments ridiculing the figure to yourself

(but i figured that would've happened about 7 negative comment ago)
