It's plain and simple. If you don't like it don't. Buy it!!!!!!!:slap

:slap
I DID buy it (thinking it would be 1/6th). I was offering observations on the figure as someone who spent nearly $300 on it. Excuuuuuuse me if my very mild critique has upset some here. :D

And the companies DO read these boards from time to time, or are made aware of the general sentiment of collectors, so constructive criticism can help improve product, while trying to shut up valid critique accomplishes nothing. The "only offer praise" philosophy isn't a very worthwhile thing unless that thing is utter perfection.

Pointing out a figure's perceived shortcomings hardly equates to not liking the figure :dunno

Exactly. And it can, maybe, serve a purpose (as I mention above).

Sean

Then let me rephrase that if you have a problem with the scaling of the figure then don't buy it. Better?

Well yeah, but only if the scale is the deal breaker :) Few figures come out perfect, in which case deciding on what to buy or not buy becomes a matter of weighing up what you're prepared to put up with and what you're not. In most cases I think people will buy something that on balance they're very happy with, but still wish that some details had been better resolved. And they share those opinions on the board, which helps people like me decide whether a fence-sittin' figure is worth picking up :)

I can 100% agree with this, HOWEVER....mwe digress. Enough with the member bashing, and let's see who has enough guts to further customize the piece!

:yess:

I think u guys are the only ones thinking this is out of scale. I think it's pretty darn perfect.

No, others have also mentioned it in this thread, too. Anyway, here are some photos to illustrate my point on size (though size wasn't my main concern- the main concern was more the materials used on the torso and how they might interact with other plastic costume items over time, and the general longevity of the rubberized/vinyl torso).

While the height is nearly there it's overall on the small side. Clearly the head and upper torso are too small.

But overall it's a very nice figure, apart from the scale issue.

Other shots- if you watch the film a person's head comes up to, at most, the upper thighs or hips or an avatar - you can see this when Sigourney Weaver walks the humans out of the avatar pen when they are going to sleep, seen in the shot below, however in this photo Weaver's avatar is significantly behind the humans so you don't see the height difference as much as when you watch the full scene in the film:

Hot Toys version compared to various 1/6 humans:

With Sideshow Stormtrooper helmet and Dragon head, etc, noting the undersized Jake head. Also note the undersized torso compared to the shots from the film above. The shoulder width/general upper torso size is almost the same as any 1/6 human while it should be quite a bit larger to be an accurately scaled 1/6 avatar. Again, this figure is maybe 1/7th, not 1/6 I guess:

And finally, the alternate head they should have included:

I'd LOVE to see a customizer make this head. I know I'd buy one!!!

And they were all proven wrong... :lol

No, they weren't. The first photo you posted shows humans closer to the camera than the Na'Vi. Hence their size. So forget that photo.

The second photo clearly shows how Jake's head should be bigger on the Hot Toys figure.

Third photo doesn't show much as Jake is closer to the camera.

Fourth photo shows how much bigger the head should be.

Again, look at this:

And compare to this:

Clearly the head is smaller than it should be. Also, look at the shoulder width.

Regarding Arron's post below this- Yeah, the size is good for a stand alone figure, but it's not 1/6.

Love this piece don't have to defend anything or argue about anything I used my money to buy this figure so all that matters to me is what I think. :wave

How about nooooooooooo!!!!! Lol don't need to read when I have the figure in front of me :slap

:slap Oy vey, no idea why this is so hard to grasp. Obviously I meant that rather than posting stuff that made no sense in response to what I'd written that you understand what I was saying before commenting.

And no one was trying to convince you, or anyone else, of anything. I simply presented my observations and then backed them up with visual evidence after you and others acted as if I was "freaking out", nitpicking, or should remain silent unless I wanted to praise the product. No idea why people jump on those who offer even the most mild (and, ironically, valid) critique. It doesn't make for the most pleasant of experiences here.

Anyway, sure, obviously if you don't like it don't buy it. But that makes no sense in response to what I'd said. THAT is what I was pointing out to you.
:D

I think they probably reduced the scale to keep the price down. I guess for true 1/6 Jake should be around 21" instead of 18". But Im not bothered because this figure is already enormous. And when HT first announced this I was thinking they would just put out a 12 inch figure, so it has surpassed expectations.

Jake turned out great. My first impression when I took it out of the box was its actually kinda heavy for such a skinny figure. It feels very solidly built. The joints are very smooth and hold position well. I thought it was just flat plastic but it has a subtle skin texture all over the body. The paint work is excellent. Although I am a little worried about his feet getting scratched, don't want it to slide across the surface too much. The only complaint I have is I wish it had more hands, like for holding the grenades or fists. He also could have had some other accessories like the bow and arrow or maybe the broken knife he picked up from Quaritch's AMP suit

Jakes' AVATAR is 9-foot-tall, which is equal to 18" at 1/6. The head and body proportions look spot-on when compared with the Marcus Wright figure. Anyway, I trust HT got the scale correct, because they would have had direct input and approval from James Cameron or his studio.

Geeze I thought we had moved on with this argument. Guess not, I'm sorry but we are NOT comparing a PROP with the CGI models. Since we never saw props in the movie, the only thing to really compare size to is the CG models.

I think this looks phenomenal. Is it perfect? No, but what figure is? All I can say is it's as good as it gets and looks 100 times better in person. I currently have him displayed next to my super Preds and they look like midgets next to good ole Jake.

no he is NOT,..do your homework. The Navi's are 10 feet tall, and Jake is taller than many of them,..INLCUDING Neytiri,... so yeah, Hot Toys got the scale ALL WRONG!! :gah:

this is 1/7 scale!!

But you could say this one is Jake's little brother,..the pinhead Navi :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl:

Can't believe they got this all wrong,.. he is not only the wrong scale, but he is waaaaaaaaay too skinny and his head way too small!! And I don't like the likeness either!!
And "rubber torso", is that right???? :gah::gah::gah:
