Well its not that much of a stretch considering Nicholsons Joker has a permanent grin - part of his scarring and reconstructive surgery. So they were never not going to go with a grinning expression.

But to go open mouth...that's the joker smiling...they could have gone closed mouth, but they didn't and it paid off big time.

Yeah, I expected a lifeless expression myself but this is the best none neutral (or is it neutral for the Joker ) expression Hot Toys has ever done.

Usually, the portraits look the same. Angry, focused, disconnected or a mouth is slightly opened. This, this is just nuts. The Comedian was close, but still a bit goofy. This one, I mean just look at those teeth.

I'm buying multiples of this figure. Definitely.

In the making of Batman the make up artist took casts of Nicholson's face and then added the smile onto it so you had a perfect representation of his face.

Do you think HT had access to those casts in someway which is why the sculpting is so perfect? Furthermore, the expressions on the casts seems exactly the same as the expression on the figure.

I'm looking at that sculpt - anyone think it'd be a relatively easy paint-job to make a second head into a flesh-colored version? And would the expression still look good?

but this is clearly a proto and if Honor Guard/Cop Joker is any indication, it should be fine in person.
