Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

Hard to say without knowing what went into the cost of it, but sculpting, casting, and painting a detailed interior could have meant significantly more money.

It was likely a judgment call that they figured people would care more about the exterior having lights and the detail out there.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

Considering that this would be a ground up design that won't sell in huge quantities (unless everyone buys it to put in storage) you guys want it to be feature rich and detailed beyond the Tumbler and cost barely more even though it is known that HT lost money on the Tumbler? So is it realistic to expect all that and assume HT is willing to loose money on this again at a slightly higher price point? I fear we wont see this Batmobile afterall :(

Yes, I want something that cost $500+ to be detailed:rotfl

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

If those small AMT ERTL 1989 Batmobile models that I built when I was younger had a detailed dash board with all the instruments, I don't see why a Hot Toys version couldn't.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

Granted, part of it's price is probably the limited edition, but, a 12" wide and 29" long Batmobile from Toynami runs almost $2000, $500 for something bigger with similar exterior functions would be a steal in my book.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

well what you want is HT to loose money on another project vehicle so sadly it just means we wont get one.
I rather get one skipping the interior completely (never put my bat in the tumbler ones) focus on exterior only and improved packaging and allow HT to make money so they will actually continue making vehicles as noone else does anymore these days at 1/6 (for a reason)

You pretty much said it. ERTL molded the parts, you did a lot of the work. Hot Toys will be doing everything, which means costs of labor and such, changes things a bit.

:thud: I cant even begin to digest that comparison

again nice to only see it from POV of the consumer. again to reiterate the retail price is typically 4x of the production cost and with increased size (dimensional weight) the chunk that shipping companies throw on top gets only bigger.

like I said, its not the same as with the Tumbler.

The Burton batmobile was fully assembled and ready to be used and shot as it was.
The tumbler they had to made different variations, for driving, for interior shots (it was a studio) and one for the slide mechanisme.

I thought batfans knew that from the Begins extra's...

I'm not even talking about the Tumbler. :dunno

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

Yeah, I'm thinking $450 for the Batmobile.

Pop-up machine guns. Sliding canopy. Detailed interior. Working lights.

It would sell like crazy.

I would be so very tempted. I just have no idea where I would keep something of that size! :thud:

you are talking about the Burton batmobile, I know

but I was just saying in respons to another poster that complained about the interior of the Tumbler was incomplete in the Hot Toys car. But that is normal, since the real tumbler car interior was just a studio set, and thats not the case for the Burton batmobile.
So I thought you shared the same sceptic view of the other poster that hot toys better make a full Burton batmobile interior this time, my bad.

But, they can if they wanted too.
Like you said (or was it somebody else) there were model kits that are complete and there is the expensive Toynami model

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

The 89 Batmobile would easily outsell the Tumbler. With that in mind a larger quantity expected to sell would allow for a price closer to the Tumbler but with a detailed interior.

Granted, most of the time I'd have the canopy closed for display but I can see me leaving it open with Batman poised to jump in from time to time.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

but keep in mind the many posts I read about here before ...."wish I had space for it...." "still in the box...." "went back to the box..." Most that like the Keaton Batmobile likely like the Tumbler as well and vice versa to a larger degree and are the ones that would invest in such $$ pieces but then displaying one was challenging at least for me but both :horror

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

I think there's a difference between like and love. I'm sure some people are huge Tumbler fans, but I think the '89 Batmobile has a much fonder, more sentimental and deeper favor with fans. For me it's one of my most favorite cars I've ever seen, if I could, I'd own one to drive as my personal car. The Tumbler's neat but nothing overly special to look at, most of what's cool about it is what it can do and toys on the shelf can't do all that, which is why I went for just a 1:18 Hot Wheels Tumbler.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

I think the people interested in an 89 batmobile are going to be more dedicated to finding space and displaying it than those interested in the tumbler. We've been waiting for 20 years ya know. :D

Saying HT couldve been more creative isnt complaining. When HT make their figures and vehicles, they make them based on how they appear on screen, not how they appear on set.

Definitely.

I'd have space for it in my big cabinet above the Tumbler.

I really like it but not as much as the memories from the early 90's.

That canopy is just so elegant as well as the view from those huge wide lights.

The timing would also be important though. My assumption is most Keaton Batman fan also appreciate Nolan Batman movies without going into the waste-of-my-time question of which is better but both are great. Now if Tumbler has not been released yet I would agree Keaton Batmobile will outsell the Tumbler. But being the other way around there is no guarantee of that unless I guess with the increase in value of the Tumbler some may jump ship, sell the Tumbler for profit to reinvest into the Keaton Batmobile.

I guess I underestimate that LOVE :lol I have to rearrange everything again but I will have to have both vehicles flank my TV... actually it strikes a better balance (some may argue but yes I like both movies just as well) .. darn gotto redesign my speaker setup though :p

Definitely.

AHA but you have the Tumbler if you are a mad Batman fan :lol
